AfterPay scam - too good to be true?

Someone is offering $600 in after pay money for $350.

Apparently I’m told ‘ so if you pay is me 200 I will send you the in-store code and the activation code then once you purchase something they will send me the verification and annd i will send you that and once purchase has been made you send me the order and price and then pay me the other 150’.

Is this too good to be true, and is it that easy to operate ?

I’m not meeting them In person so it’s all online

This is the easiest way to make money but for the seller.

    Take your $200 and run.

What do people say about something that sounds too good to be true

I've used afterpay for a few years and as far as I know there's no such thing as afterpay dollars

If the after pay account is not in your name and you suspect it is stolen, then you'd be committing a crime, yeah? And if you're dealing with someone stupid enough to treat this like a payday loan, then you should do them a favour and reject their deal. Might not be a crime for them to buy something for you at a $200 loss to themselves, but how could you live with yourself.

    • I've heard of this happening amongst my old druggie mates. You can buy a bigger 'unit' of drugs that more than cover the $200 loss if onsold as smaller 'units'. But that involved going to store with them and receiving the item worth $1500 upfront, paying them the $1200 and leaving.

    Seriously?

    Sounds 100000% legit 👌

  • Thanks for all the replies, I have nfi how after pay works.

I just usually pay with my own cash, I was just curious to know if it would be possible for someone to offer such a service. (So they could pay their rent).

They gave me their number etc, but sounds too good to be true from what you say

    • Afterpay allows people to buy goods and pay it off in 4 fortnightly instalments. First payment is immediate since covid, (dont know why that made a difference) interest free but if you miss a payment for more than 2 days they charge $10 late fee
