Can anyone recommend an external HDD I can plug into my PS3 to use and where would be the cheapest to buy it?

ur wrong about 3.0 cos mine works, as for fat32 spot on. anything other than fat32 the ps3 wont read. i suggest a something thats usb powered
Meant that usb 3 speeds could not be taken advantage of (rather than not work at all..sorry). So no need to hunt for usb3.0.
theres a few ps3 that dont read 3.0 (altho ive heard a usb hub fixes that problem), and yes 3.0 usb speed wont be acheived on ps3.

No idea but it has to be formatted to FAT32 (google the software). Go for the portable ones (not desktop) if you want to avoid having the need to provide an additional power supply. USB2.0 is sufficient since the PS3 can't read USB3.0. For portable you will be looking in the 500GB-1.5TB range.
