Will EB Games Accept a Console Trade in with a Third Party Controller?

I have a PS4 Pro and only one gold controller, I'd like to use that on the PS5. When I trade in the PS4 Pro can I just trade it in with a $10 controller I buy on ebay. Seems silly to trade in an $80 controller only need to buy another one anyway.

  • Pretty sure you need an official controller

  • So you want to only play PS4 games on the PS5?
The PS5 also comes with a controller in the box.

    • Don't you need a PS4 controller to play PS4 games on PS5?

You can use a PS4 controller to play PS4 games, but not PS5 games due to the newly added functionality. It wouldn't make sense for a PS5 controller to not work on PS4 games, given there isn't anything the PS4 controller can do that the PS5 controller can't.

          Yeah as Ryen Said
PS4 Controller: Works on PS4 Games but not PS5 Games
PS5 Controller: Works on Both PS4 and PS5 Games

        • So is it confirmed that you can play PS4 games on a PS5 with a PS5 controller, or does it just make sense?

          • @AustriaBargain: It's not explicitly confirmed but there's no way PS5 owners are expected to go out and buy a PS4 controller to play backwards compatible PS4 games and PS Plus Collection games which have both been key selling points for the PS5.

You can play PS4 games on a PS5 with the DualSense controller.

            • @Hybroid: I guess I can buy a gold PS5 controller when they come out. But I bought the back paddle attachment, the attachment would be useless without a controller. So I do want to keep a PS4 controller.

          • @AustriaBargain: there is a video from PS on YouTube i cant search for it atm… but yes Sony have said explicitly that PS5 controller can be used for PS4 games

            • @jimbobaus: I still want to be able to use the back button. I guess I’ll just buy whatever the cheapest preowned controller is on eBay.

I doubt they'll accept it with a crappy controller. Imagine buying a preowned console to find a piece of garbage $10 controller with it

    Edit:
    From EB games site

Your console needs to be an Australian model, in working condition and not be modified. Your console must not be banned from the PlayStation Network. Below are the consoles we trade:
    PlayStation 4 500GB and 1TB, PlayStation 4 Slim 500GB and 1TB, and PlayStation 4 Pro 1TB.

To trade a complete console, it also needs to include:

    1 x PS4 Dualshock Controller
    1 x USB charge cable
    1 x HDMI cable
    1 x Power cable

If your console is not in working, complete, or resalable condition - we may still be able to trade it. Ask at your local EB Games store or contact our friendly customer service team on 13 39 30 for more information.

I'm pretty sure that means an official dualshock

    • Yeah, that confirms it has to be a DualShock 4. But you can still trade without it, you'll just get a lesser value due to it not being complete.

      • I wish I kept my spare controllers now. But I gave them away because I thought I'd only ever be playing single player games on a Playstation,

        • Understandable. Maybe give EB a call and find out what they'll give you for a Pro with everything except the controller. If it's not much less, it could still be worth trading in regardless. Otherwise you might be able to get a cheap second-hand one off eBay or FB Marketplace for less than the price difference of the trade-in values.

Either that or you trade it in with the one controller you do still have and do without for now, then pick up a replacement later. The price of PS4 accessories will drop pretty quickly once PS5 accessories become widely available.

          • @MitchyD1989: That’s true. And I’d get the new controller feeling if I bought another layer, though I’ve been gentle with this one.

  • You might as well try

  • I have traded in a PS4 but wanted to keep the DualShock 4, so gave them a DualShock 3. They accepted it but took like $40 off the trade value.
