This Came up Quick (Medical Issue with Leg)

Warning - if you have a weak stomach, please do not look at 'Tuesday arvo'

I miss Doctor Who, don't you miss the episodes where something attaches itself to someone and the Doctor and his/her companion races to save their life?
I thought since we got a new Doctor, we were going to get regular shows? Is nothing regular?

Back to the problem at leg. On Monday arvo I felt like I had an itch on my left shin that needed to be scratched, this one I couldn't scratch, I just put a big bandage on and I thought I would get the doctor (my local) to see it on Thursday morning. The fat legs are from a kidney disorder, I am still waiting to see a kidney specialist since January, last year! https://i.imgur.com/WzR4Ewm.jpg

Come Tuesday arvo and the shin was a bit sore so I had a look around the bandage and I saw a minor weep so I decided to remove to bandage and put another one on. What I saw was this https://i.imgur.com/DfWljKY.jpg I thought to myself, "self. that is too big a job for me, I better get my ass to Mars, make that hospital".
For some reason, the staff and the doctor could not believe that came on so quick. They took a swab and it bought back memories of the movie the Blob; I have not seen that person again yet either. The doctor grabbed a knife and cut the whole thing out (the wound, not the leg); the whole top skin was cut out down to the next layer, just imagine the colour red. Does it hurt? Only when my kitten runs into it full boar (I don't know why either, maybe it wanted to be a kamikaze?)

I wonder what caused it? I wonder where the Doctor is? I have the Doctor's theme music as my SMS alert, not even that has sounded yet. At least we still have a Christmas Special this year like always

Most likely a Buruli ulcer (also known as Bairnsdale ulcer); an infection of skin and soft tissue caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium ulcerans, but your doctor should be doing a test to confirm.

I am not a doctor or medically trained

BTW, I hope the drugs are working.

        Thanks.
Do you know of any bargains for stethoscopes?

    • That sounds cool to me, thanks for the info; at least it ain't that flesh eating one, that's from nearby
They have me on anti-biotic, but I am on that many drugs any way from all my other things wrong with me
This is my brekkie https://i.imgur.com/rQ7Y89T.jpg actually, I take more after I have my brekkie
I bought my car from Bairnsdale. There is the best pizza shop ever in Bairnsdale, my mate in Delegate is a very close 2nd thou

      • Your poor liver…

        • Actually, my liver is the best part of my body & I like to drink nearly everyday (moonshine)
I was told 2 decades ago that my body was fvcked & I need a new one by my then doctor
Name a part and it is stuffed on me. I used to work hard when I was young
Hard work never kills you they used to say, nobody said anything about it stuffing your body up for life thou

I'm itching to click on the image links but I'd rather not (especially on a Tuesday morning)

FWIW I would have had that dealt with on the Monday. That looked so many shades of wrong already by then let alone the horror show on Tuesday.

    • I should have got a needle and some thread and passed it through that sucker to burst the thing and let it drain
but it was getting dark and cold down here in Tassie and I didn't want to do that inside as I didn't want that thing to leak inside
I used to work as a mechanic and a mill worker and I lived in the bush for half my life and I don't go running to the doctors for every scratch

    • Na mate, a bandaid could have fixed it! 🙄

  • This Came up Quick

Should it be a concern if the wife says this?

    • It's mine and I am allowed to wash it as fast as I like :p

      • It was before you changed the title - I went into the thread thinking it was about something else! lol :p~

        • I didn't change the title

          • @the Unforgiven: I could see the thing about the title
Just like one of the episodes in the first seasons of Shitts Creek
The poster of the father and the daughter out on the lake fishing
I wonder what sort of fish are in the lake?

It reminds me of this joke about;-
why shouldn't we let women go swimming in the sea,
but I better not answer that, I will get banned longer than one night

  • You have an underlying condition so it is hard to ascertain if the oedema is a symptom for the same problem as that in your picture or a cause, or unrelated.

    Get it swabbed and cultured.

    (Or loosen those shoe laces.)

    • I got it swabbed last Tuesday, but I did not get the result back by when I was there Friday
And as it turned out, the next business day I will go there will be my usual appointment on Thursday morning

      I take 80mg of Frusemide every morning for the swollen legs, sometimes I take another 40mg, sometimes another 40mg less;
I self medicate by the swelling on my feet, the doctor has enough on his plate
The swelling goes up if I fall asleep at my computer chair instead of going to bed,
sometimes I don't want to go to bed as my valve on top of my stomach is pretty well fvcked and I get bile & chunks coming up all the time
and I hate sitting up quickly in the middle of the night clenching my teeth hoping I don't do a Linda Blair impression; I hate my body
I only take the diuretic when I am not going out as I do not want to keep finding the nearest tree all the time,
I usually wait till I get home to take it if I go out

      • Sounds like you have a lot going on. Self medicating can mask symptoms and make it difficult to diagnose. Just keep track of what you're doing and when, and how your body is reacting to it… that is if you are adamant you are going to self medicate.

I know most doctors will just tell you to stop doing it but I know better than to get between a person and their inevitable actions.

  • The doctor is fine with me self medicating, been asking his advice for months,
then saying I did this for months and he said it was all fine
I have been on free medicine since early May, it is because I am on that many of them.
The hospital wanted a list of all the meds I am on, they were impressed of my list
They said the doctor wrote this list out, I said no, I write it out and give it to the doctor!

Plus all the moonshine that I make as well that washes down all the drugs,
yep, the doctors and nurses know about the white lightning
I even smuggle it in with me when I go on hospital stays :p

  • I went to the doctor today and he said the swab turned up nothing
