Google Hub / Telstra / Making Phone Calls

Hey everyone,

I noticed in the google home app while setting up a google home hub and there was an option of dialing calls through the speak (provided you were on telstra network).

I was wondering if this works ok? Also do you have to be directly with telstra or will a mvno of telstra work? (Woolworths, boost etc)

If anyone has had experience with it would love to hear how it went/works.

Thanks in advance.

It makes calls, does not send SMS, not sure about MVNO but works fine on the Telstra post pad network, It uploads your contacts and you just go ok google call mum.

Appreciate the reply, thanks for the info - I thought as much. Keen to see if mvno is supported.

      It uploads your contacts

Just to clarify for the listeners, this is due to Google Contacts syncing your contacts between your phone and your Nest/Home devices, not Telstra or the Voice Activated Calling feature themselves.

I'm on Boost and it doesn't work for me. I registered through the Telstra website and got the confirmation SMS that Voice-Activated Calling was on and linked to my service. Tried on my speaker and it will start with 'Ok, calling [name]' then immediately it will say 'something went wrong, please try again later'.

    • bugger, i thought as much. I'm hoping they fix this issue or even allow other networks to use this feature.

      Would totally come in handy.

      • Works fine on my Google Mini through Boost.

    • Works for me on boost

      • Ah bummer. Not sure what is wrong with mine then. Will try and troubleshoot mine and see what's going on. Would be cool if it worked for me!

  • Thanks, didn't know I could do this! Set it up just yesterday.
