Samsung Galaxy S20 4G vs 5G

Hello Members

My Mrs b'day is coming soon. She is using S8+ since last 3 years and I am thinking this time to gift her S20 as its not very large compared to S20+ and Ultra. She likes Gold colour which is not available at all so in option i have Pink in S20 but then its only 4G. I checked Samsung website they have 5G in cosmic grey only. Is it still okay to buy 4G or better to buy 5G in S20?

Also Samsung website have more price of 5g then 4g while Amazon Au has %g cheaper than 4G. don't know why?

I am getting 4g model of S20 after used my discounts and everything for $975. is this a good price or wait for better deal?

Thanks for your Inputs..

For my own uses the 4G version is more than enough, I don't see much reason to pay $100-120 more for 5G which is already kinda sketchy unless your in a dense area like Melbourne or Sydney City centre. And for what I use my phone for, 4G is more than enough and I get good speeds with Telstra (youtube vids, social media, light gaming etc etc) and i'm not downloading 4K video files so 4G speeds are more than enough.

I think once 5G is more established down the road then consider a phone with 5G. Your missus will like the pink, it is a nice shade of pink that is not too out there like some of the stuff Huawei have released. The blue is very nice as well (the one I have)… grey is a bit boring, just my own opinion :-)

$975 is not too bad unless they do another EPP discount for those that actually have access to it.

    • This price is after EPP discount

  • 4G.

People who really know the technology behind 5G will say getting current 5G is useless.

Average Joe will think 5g is good if we can buy 5g phone why not, blah blah blah….

But the number 5 is higher than 4. It must be better.

I think by next year 5G will be fairly standard across the flagship phones (the rumour is that the next iPhone will have 5G). At this stage it doesn't make much of a difference, but if she's planning on holding on to it for 3+ years it might be worthwhile stumping up for the 5G. Additionally, the coverage is pretty spotty at the moment, but that will improve. I personally don't think it worth getting a 5G phone at this stage.
