Hi, I have been searching for a decent set of audiophile headphones that could also cover my FPS gaming needs, including Discord (so needs a mic) whilst still being pleasant for music. Reading others posts here it seems such a beast may not exist. However, I already own a pair of 32ohm DT770 Pro's from BD and have found them great for music and monitoring, so these seem to be DT770's with a Mic added on and reviews on the generation 2 appears to confirm, they are good at pretty much everything, with a high quality mic, removable cables, PC control and comfortable for longer periods. The only downside is that they are not wireless, however I am already juggling so many wireless devices that always seem to be flat, I simply didn't want to add another set of potential issues and charging to my daily regime. Searching around it seems Amazon UK have these around $100 shipped cheaper than anywhere in Australia, providing you have Prime. Hope this helps someone else.

Had no idea these existed. I have some beyer t90s with a modmic and they are amazing. No consumer gaming headsets I've tried (a50s, arctis pro wireless, arctis 7s, razer manowar) come close in terms of audio quality.

  • I'm looking for an 32ohms beyerdynamic. at lowest price.

    • Just any model? Odd.

      • I think the "at lowest price" kinda gives it away..

  • such a beast may not exist

    Audeze Mobius is another option.

There are others that I can't name off the top of my head.

I see your Mobius (usually at $550) and raise you an Audeze Penrose for $399. It trades in head-tracking for wireless audio and an improved microphone.

OP should go for the Penrose, or otherwise modmic something like the AKG K371, the Sennheiser HD6XX, or if they want to step up, the HIFIMAN Sundara.

      • Or go balls out with the Audeze LCD-GX for gaming and audiophile needs :)

        • I'd probably stick to the Sundara, rather than chase diminishing returns.

To me, stepping up from there would be the HEDDPhone for the AMT driver, or picking another value leader for a different sound signature.

Ok Jasswolf, you got me…..going to read up on the Penrose and maybe make the switch :)

        • I bought the Penrose hopefully its as good as everyone says it is. Its delivery is delayed till October now rather then end of September. So there is a bit of a wait.

      • what makes you say to get the penrose over the mmx 300?

        • +1

Wireless, bluetooth, wired, built-in DAC, linearity of frequency response, the ability to flip between well-tuned flat, warm and v-shaped signatures.

Might get low latency LC3 codec backported too.

The MX300 is just an overpriced DT770, which is a dated headphone at this point.

Penrose is head and shoulders above, especially if you're not looking to invest in the rest of your stack.

          • @jasswolf: what do you mean by not looking to invest in the rest of your stack?

you've convinced me to get the penrose over the mmx300, do you think the penrose is missing much quality by not having the 3d audio that the mobius has?

            • +1

@MikeLittoris1: Stack = amplifier and digital-to-analog converter (DAC), ie. what's feeding you the audio with clean power.

The head-tracking is kinda neat, but if you're not playing many non-VR simulator games, it's kind of pointless. 7.1 is decently emulated when you need it (movies), even by Windows Sonic (which Is recommend over the Dolby options).

I'd never recommend the Mobius for more than $350 at this point, and the closest its come to that is via the HyperX rebadged version without the head-tracking or Bluetooth.

One other new option you might want to look at headphone wise is the Sennheiser HD 560S, but I'd recommend auditioning before buying either one of these. You should be able to try all the headphones I've mentioned bar the Penrose at Addicted to Audio, but they have the Mobius you can try in lieu of it (call ahead to confirm stock though).

@jasswolf: ah yeah not looking for high end stacks at the moment

ok sounds like i'm not losing out too much with the 3d audio esp with it being a few hundred extra, gonna pull the trigger on the penrose
                thanks for that, appreciate it

i'll have a look at the sennheisers but not a fan of open back designs

  • I never knew about these! I'm switching my Logitech G Pro Wireless for these!

      • What is this modmic we are talking about? I haven't heard anything about modmic. I googled it and it showed a company calls AntLion. Is this the company that makes modmic?

        • Yes, but there are several brands which offer attachable microphones, as well as many options in terms of piggybacking a microphone onto headphones that have a removeable cable.

Pick a headphone and research your options, instead of getting stuck with only headset choices, as they tend to suck, like this one does as a value proposition.

Considered these before buying my dt7720 pro's (80ohm). Couldn't justify the extra $200 or so just to be able to speak to people
