Spending a Few Months in Perth, Looking into E-Bike Options and Possibly Hiring, Anyone Know Anything?

I'm spending a few months in Perth and thinking about picking up an ebike, as I loved scooting around in Victoria (but I left my bike over there).

I'd like to be able to hire a nice one with insurance, servicing etc covered in the cost. I looked around for an hour last night and all I could really find was tour hiring options for Swan Valley, nothing that catered to medium - long term bike hiring.

Is this even an option in Perth?

Other option is just taking the hit on purchasing one new/second hand, and then reselling it when I leave in ~3 months. Bit of a pain.

Any advice/experience?

Hey mate. Welcome to good ol WA. I searched on google under this 'ebike hire in perth' and came up with a few places. Whereabouts will you be staying? Perth is a very looong but narrow place so an eBike might not all that work for your needs depending.

    • Hi! Thanks, I'm actually a local returning to be with family for a while after a few years of hiatus, so I know how it is ;)

      Care to share your results?

Most of what I'm finding doesn't have any specifics of even bike models or looks a bit uhh… 90's website style (sure feels like Perth)

Judging by the table on this site http://aboutbikehire.com.au/prices.aspx#bike

      1 week: $168
      2 +$105
      3 +$90
      4 +$70

so @433/month for 3 months would be $1299

Not too bad I guess, some other results are a bit more expensive though and at $1500+, I'm thinking just buying a used one or a conversion kit would be a better investment.

      • If you bought something used and sold it when you were leaving you'd probably only end up a couple of hundred out of pocket, might even be able to get your money back.

        • Yeah that's the frugal option, and exactly would I would usually do. I'm just weighing up options; I'm actually working a lot lately (a big change for me) so I'm more time poor, but I have more disposable income.

What I want is the convenience of a quality product & service.

I guess I could just buy one used then pay for premium servicing and insurance.

  • How much is it to ship your bike from Vic and back?
I shipped a road bike from Seattle to Pittsburgh last year (I realise this is a different country and product), but the one way cost was about $200USD one way all in including packaging and pick up by a courier.

    • Yeah it's about the same cost here according to the cheapest quote I got a couple of months ago. That was the original plan but unfortunately I didn't have the time & space to make it happen between moving out of our apartment, hence why I'm looking for something in the meantime.
