Listing price on eBay: free shipping or postage

Hi would appreciate your opinion on your view on how I should price my products and what’s more appealing to the buyer
Product 1:
14.95 and free shipping
Or
6 and 8.95 shipping

My initial thought was shipping was better due to the initial low price point they might make buyers click into the link. But then I read that eBay algorithm promotes free shipping more.

What are your thoughts and your view on which one is more attractive?

Thanks

generally, free shipping is more attractive. in your case where shipping is more expensive than the actual item cost, definitely list it as free shipping. I personally don't like seeing an extra postage cost at checkout. its like an unwanted surprise.

I usually look at the cheapest item based on cost and postage first. Though I'd rather free postage, if I see the item I like and its a good price I'll put it into my cart, if I then get to the cart and notice theres $x tacked on for postage, instead of just clicking pay it makes me stop and think "do I realllllllllllly need this", and usually at that point it stops me from buying it.

luckily ebay has this option. most other sites don't have a sort price+postage option. if I did my research on an item I really want, then I'll mentally compare whether its cheaper after the final price but usually, when I get to checkout and see a big fat $20 postage slapped on a $100 item, im already looking elsewhere

Looking at your examples I'd rather free shipping cause I'd doubt myself to buy an item where shipping costs more….

If there's something wrong with the item, then the buyer gets refunded the shipping cost anyway. May as well have it free postage. IMO it makes you look more professional, like you've got a whole big distribution thing going on, instead of sitting there calculating the costs of shipping on each item. I'll still order whatever's cheapest, but free shipping stands out to me even if it costs the same. Maybe an old habit from when shipping wasn't refundable.

What really impresses me though, is free express shipping. Makes me think you've really got some fancy shit going on and probably won't let my item sit there all week before you can be bothered going to the post office.

Cashback not paid on postage so buyer may choose free post even if same total price from two sellers

This…. 'free' shipping is loved by buyers and ebay AI.

The smart people know there is no such thing as 'free' shipping!

  • Cover both bases by having both listings.

  • I sell a lot of low value stuff ( a few dollars) and have the shipping separate as it makes my goods look expensive.

I also explain in my description how ebay & Paypal fees and commissions turn $8.65 of shipping into $11.

    • How do your sales go? Have you noticed any difference?

      • Very slow at the moment. I wouldn't even call it low but steady. I guess there's a limited market for jousting sticks.

For buyer's change of mind, if you do $14.95 free shipping - you need to refund $14.95. if you do $6+$8.95 - you only refund $6.

    • Really? I had a change of mind the other day. $2 +$3.30 shipping. They changed mind before I'd posted so I had to refund the lot. Of course Paypal kept their commission of 50c. It's not much but could add up.

Or are we talking different scenarious?
