Mama Shrimp (Tom Yum) Flavour Instant Noodles Jumbo 5 Pack $3.50 @ Woolworths

930

For those that can’t handle the heat (e.g. Nong Shim Shin Ramyun) or prefers tasting flavour rather than heat, then MAMA Tom Yum is your alternative this week.

Works out to be 70c per 90g pack, which is pretty good vs ~$1.05 at an Asian grocery
Get further 5% off via Cashreward WW egift card.

Pork Flavour also on sale, but that flavour is a bit ordinary IMO https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/85168/mama…

Made in Thailand

PS: Don’t add the chilli pack if you just want the sour taste of Tom Yum

Last deal (2 weeks ago) was 85c per pack as noticed by PoKGuy comment

EDIT: Looks like WW special is still available at $3.50 (30SEP-6OCT)

Lol - I was fixing my typos when you commented 😅

      • All good 😜. You are so right about the heat of those Nong Shim Shin Ramyun, I wish I could handle it

      • which is pretty good vs ~$1.05 at an Asian grocery

Where's the best Asian grocer to compare?

  • 60c is a bargain. Cheers OP

    • It’s 70c each???

      • ah yes, brain fart. still cheaper than the asian grocers though

        • +1

Are you sure? If you bought a big box (which I guess not many non Asian families would do), I'm sure it'll be like 40c each

  • I've tried this recently. Very good tbh

Real thais eat this dry and uncooked

      Real thais

That would then give you some real thighs

Was introduced to dry mama noodles in primary school (30 years ago) from a friend that just immigrated from Vietnam. Pretty sure we're still friends today thanks to these noodles 😂

  • One of my favourites.

Wish they stocked the shrimp creamy tom yum flavour..

    • The legendary tier Mama noodles… Yum

I'm weird but this georing style with no water (dry noodles) and the juice of a whole lemon does it for me

  • I bought these a few weeks ago at 85c each click

The noodles are fried and has palm oil.

The portion is bigger than average and easily fills me up when I add some ham or leftover BBQ pork, plus some veggies and an egg.

The Tom Yum flavour is pretty authentic and is proper spicy and sour. Naturally, adjust the amount of powder and/or water to suit your personal preference.

The pork version is best described as meh.

The pork version is amazing what are you talking about, out of all instant noodles out there these are my favourite!

Second this. Pork flavour is my shit. Have some on my desk right now

      • My recollection was that it was salty and nothing else.
Maybe it's my expectation of what "pork flavour" is supposed to be like.

        Anyways, each to their own.
        Cheers.

Yes, but costs more per 100g than the shin ramen

This is the best Instant Noodle, destroys anything out there !

  • Noodles listed as 'Unavailable' on Woolworths website and app. However a quick stock check shows that 1 (Sunshine Maketplace, VIC 3020) out of 4 of my local Woolies still has some available.

    • yeah wtf showing unavailable but when i click Stores shows many near me :/

there goes my plan of ordering online

  • Thanks, is there any other good flavours?

  • +5

I'm Thai and I always have these stocked. They're so good.

In fact 'Mama' has become a staple item in Thai pantry that the brand is simply synonymous with any instant noodle (like how 'Hoover' = vacuum cleaner in the UK).

    • any Aussie analogy?

      • +1

Had to think about that one for a while, but I guess 'Esky' is a comparable example - a term that has turned into a generic name for portable coolers.

Thai chef here; this is as close to Tom Yum 'without the work' as you can get.

Great for late night munchies, after boozy night hang over cures, and just overall good tangy thai flavour.

For those out there who want to try something new:

    1. Pour packet and noodles into a flat based bowl and make as normal but only soak the noodles for 2 - 3 mins so they are a bit hard still.

    2. Drain the stock INTO A BOWL and keep the stock.

    3. Shred some chicken, corriander, and shallots and toss into the dry noodles.

    4. Serve noodles in bowl or plate with bowl of soup as accompanying.

Now you have a nice dry tangy subtle noodle dish and a soup to accompany it.

    • im salivating

      • Every time I cook Tom Yum, or smell it, I start salivating.

        It's like a Pavlovian reflex !!!
