New TV, what to get for bright room?

Looking to purchase a new tv.

It will go in a room that gets decent light, so glaring will be an issue if colours/darks are not great.

Looking at 65”-70”.

No really budget as I don’t quite understand the difference between a QLED Samsung which is $1895 vs a QLED Samsung which is $4000 QLED etc

Should I be aiming for OLED/QLED?

Are there any new smart features that I need to ensure the TV has?

Do any of them has a unit that connects to the tv in a single cable, but that unit contains multiple HDMI/Antenna/USB ports?

Lastly, wall mounts. I think I want something that has the tv placed as close to the wall as possible. Any recommendations?

  • I can't really comment on the technicals because I'm not massively knowledgeable regarding the things you've asked.

However, I can say that any direct light on the screen will ruin the picture viewing, no matter how bright it is. Whenever I ran into this issue, I either had curtains/blinds or angled the screen away from light directly falling on it. Was able to achieve perfectly satisfactory viewing results.

    • Agreed mate.

I’ll certainly have the blinds closed etc, but it’s still a bright room.

So while no direct light, it will still be bright :)

OLED isn't good for a bright room unless you are viewing mostly in the evening. If viewing mostly in the day, then QLED is preferable if you are set on Samsung. Sonys are good too so have a look at them. The higher the price, the thing that changes is how the TV is lit to provide the picture (e.g. edge lit Vs back lit / full array local dimming). The higher you go the better the tech the better the picture

There are samsung TV's that come with one clear cable that connect up to a separate box, but I think that feature is reserved only for the higher models (e.g. Q95T).

All TV'S these days are pretty much smart tva that have your standard apps (Netflix YouTube) so I think you will be ok there.

Wall mounting is fine, all those tvs will have holes at the back for you to mount. You just need to buy your own low profile mount and install it (selbys is highly recommended).

    • Where is the sweet spot for price?

      • Firstly depends on size. There is a fair difference between 65 and 75, so you need to decide which size for your room and what budget you are willing to spend. For sony for example , a low end 65 would be around $1400 (x7000g) or a higher end x900h would be $2700 (pretty good price)

Also depends on how much you really care about picture quality. Whatever TV you get will look pretty good, but it's then really the finer details that improve that as you spend more (e.g. contrast ratio, deep blacks etc.) so you need to decide how much you really care about that incremental benefit.

Do a bit of research on what TVs you'd be willing to buy based on your budget and wait for the black Friday sales to see if there are any discounts via online stores or ebay (appliances central)

  • As much as I love OLED I've got agree that a Samsung QLED would be best in this scenario.

    • What is the difference between OLED and QLED?

I thought it was the same, but Samsung called theirs QLED?

      • +1

OLED is a superior technology in my opinion where QLED is just an evolution of LED.

  • I should also mention that I watch plenty of sport.
So the tv needs to cater for that, which I assume most would anyway

  • Follow up question.

How are the Samsung “Frame” and LG “Gallery” comparable to the other TVs in their range that are not as “slim”

The area I want to place the tv needs to be as flush as possible to the wall

Considering I will need a sparky to come and create a power point that is recessed within the wall, does anyone recommend someone to install the TV in general? I am based in VIC
