    • Yeah I know, kind of desperate atm. It's better than nothing. I feel like a bum sitting at home getting centrelink and mindlessly applying for jobs.

DId you need to sign up for a sole trader abn?

      • Work out your costs before getting a free ABN. You may have to pay for comprehensive insurance, public liability, BAS fees, vehicle maintenance, etc.

    • Holy mackerel.

This is Amazon’s way of bring modern slavery to Australia.

When you decide to complete the delivery, you can try to email them, explain your condition and ask for a reimbursement. There is no guarantee that you always get a response and compensated. But if they end up compensating for extra hours, it’s not recommended to do it repeatedly as you might get kicked out from the platform.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I know, the gig economy is bad but I've applied for so many jobs these last few months. I'm overqualified for retail and don't have experience to get into a civil engineering graduate role.

What about labourer on a construction site?
Might give you some more relevant experience.

Everyone wants their $3 deodorant, $2 soap, insert your fav cheap ozbargain Amazon deal, delivered to their door for free but wants to pay warehouse packers and delivery drivers fair wages? It can’t happen.

Hence I always encourage those who think it’s all “free” as part of their prime to think again, its robbing those who can’t get a secure full time job forced into the gig economy.

I mean.. id argue that at least the 'gig' economy exists - if it didnt then OP would be relying on centrelink or doing nothing. It's obviously not ideal, but I really dont think the gig economy is a bad thing.

I was once in between jobs, I drove for UberEats.
Did I make as much as what I would in a normal job? No.
Did I make enough to survive when at the time my alternative was having no job at all? Yes.
Did it give me the flexibility to earn money whilst trying to find a job that I actually wanted? Yes.
