  • Has been $145 in the past

As above it has been $145. Also not sure how much better it would be than the Mechpro Blue for $90 on sale at Repco. Was thinking about picking one of those up this week.

Specs look good on paper. 900W with 15mm throw is pretty good at this price point. IIRC the Rockwell is 600W and 8mm throw and the MechPro is 600W and 9mm throw.

  • Are these a forced rotation DA polisher ? Or just like a random orbital kind where the pad just spins freely at all times?

    • 99% sure it’s not a direct drive. You won’t find a a direct drive polisher at this price point. I’ve been using one similar to this with a 21mm throw for years and it works perfectly. I’d really only suggest the step up to direct drive if your using the equipment professionally.

      • Thanks for the feedback, just personal use but I usually like to get decent tools. I have been watching the Makita 18v dual action with direct drive toggle but its a bit too pricy still.

I have a bit of paint fade coming in on my bonnet and it seems to buff out but need something a little better to use on it and the rest of the car (Amarok). I only have a crappy fixed rotation buffer and I don't find it easy to control.

  • Ignorant question here, for that price wouldn't it be a better investment to get a cordless drill and buy cheap polishing attachments? You'll be able to get more use out of the drill.

You can but that is still a drill. It does not operate the same as a dual action polisher as above. Dual action polishers move the pad in multiple directions to avoid hot spots when you're polishing, this helps prevent you melting through the clear coats.
