V Neck Shirts - Everyday Wear - Quality Brands

My standard everyday uniform is practically a v neck tshirt and shorts/jeans.

I’m looking for recommendations on quality brands for 100% cotton options for a bigger frame (I Currently wear XL)

I’ve been with Uniqlo for the past year with their 100% cotton ones not the prepackaged ones that have elastic nature etc. I’ve previously had French Connection (wouldn’t last more than a year) and Bonds have been ok quality wise in recent times prob declining in my opinion.

Brands I’ve been suggested include Ralph Lauren and Country Road but happy to consider other brands etc like online e-tailers or brands that have a made in Australia etc going for it as I’d much prefer that but knowing it’s more unlikely.

Nothing wrong with Uniqlo as they’re definitely been best lasting ones I’ve had just open to some options.

Uniqlo is going to be your best bet I think.

  • AS Colour?

    • Thanks :) - odd they're named AS Colour but only have 3x lol.
Might try these for the black ones and colours via Uniqlo.

  • ya Uniqlo is a good bet

What's wrong with Kmart? $3.50 per shirt. Even if it lasts you half as long you're still miles ahead in terms of $$$

    • Wearing Kmart shorts, they've been rock solid and waiting for them to put them out again for summer season etc.
Shirts however.. quality wise not the best.. they're quick to fade or tear.. :(

      • Oh thanks for thoughts - im thinking of minimalising my wradrobe also…was going to go kmart for shirts this arvo.

Maybe hold off and do a bit of research..watch this thread!

      • I picked up some of their black cotton polo's a few years ago and abused them. No fade, rips or loose threads. If they had a better fit I would live in them.

    • The cheap ones are garbage, they stretch after a few wears and look funny. Sizing is all weird too, the large are quite baggy and floppy. Only good for around the house, wouldn't wear one in public because they look so ratty.

  • No. Get Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren Polo from their flagship stores (or online) to ensure they're genuine.

They're average man. Armani, Ralph Lauren and CK do it better. The cotton is softer and fibres are better woven together. Go for Indian/Pakistani cotton.

Thanks, i'll check them out but will need ozbargain level deal given the brand names lol knowing they'll be a few time x the price of the average ones.
      Agree on the Cotton however.

      • Agree with you - I'd ideally like to spend $10 a shirt and have 4 in total lol

Even that makes me heart hurt a little hahahahaha. Idk man… ozbargain really having its affects on me

Bollocks. Any cotton tee will be as soft as your last wash, unless it's sold broken-in. The best cotton is Egyptian or Supima, not Indian or Pakistani (is this what the salesman told you?). Weave preference is also subjective and depends on application. Only a brand whore would assume a luxury brand 'does it better.' There is zero evidence of this. In Armani's case, you're also comparing $500 shirts vs $20. The Armani shirt is not 25x better, it's probably not even 2x 'better.' You're paying for a printed eagle or a stitched horse.

I never said that it wouldn't be.
Ralph Lauren Polo uses Medium Staple American Upland. Egyptian cotton isn't really used in V-neck t-shirts and wrinkles more than other cotton. It's also not the 'best' cotton. Depends on the application. Usually best quality is determined by the length of the fibre. The longest staple cotton is called Egyptian and is more commonly found in bed sheets and towels. Anyone who wears Egyptian Cotton Shirts need to spend their money elsewhere.

Indian cotton provides good value for money like Ben Sherman.

They do it better. I have a bunch of brands and the upmarket ones have significantly better quality v neck t-shirts.

There is zero evidence of this

Go into a David Jones and see for yourself.

My information comes from here: https://www.gentlemansgazette.com/cotton-explained/#:~:text=….

I suggest you do some reading.

Recommends Armani > buys Indian cotton to save a few bucks when Supima is affordable. Wut.

Very scientific. Please cite the double blinded, randomised control trial supports this.

I suggest you do some reading.

Your link doesn't even support what you're saying. But okay, quality Pakistani cotton.

The CK v-neck 2 pack I got off a deal posted on here are excellent. Very nice quality cotton, far better than Uniqlo. Can't remember how much I paid, but it was very cheap.

target do some good quality cotton t-shirts for $10-$15, any more and you're paying for the brand.

  • Well i always like the $15/$20 shirts from Connor but truthfully i just stick to what i use, so i can't compare! I believe some are 100% cotton, others aren't.

  • Uniqlo

    I destroy tops.

Ralph Lauren Polo's in cotton barely fade. They get very fine pile. I have never had one rip nor had a loose thread. I buy from their factory outlet's for ~30% off RRP. They rotate stock often so if you don't like the logo colour, come back in a few months.

Kmart cotton polo's perform similar to Polo's. They get larger piles. I am also a ton harder on these as I got mine for $10 (compared to $80 a tee).

Calvin Klien polo's can last (I have had one a decade), but they are fashion first. They don't breath.

I have broken most brand's v necks and dress shirts. The MEN Supima Cotton V Neck Short Sleeve T-Shirt looks like something I would destroy with in six months.

The most comfortable reasonably priced v neck I have found is an merino blend special buy from Aldi. But they get thin after a few months becoming unsuitable for more than an undershirt.

I haven't tried Armani. Their shirts looked out of my price range when I checked so I didn't bother with other items.

With Polo you are paying for the brand but also the cut. They are very flattering, they don't need an iron if line dried and most work places consider them causal professional. I have had one in weekly rotation for about two years. It's still highly presentable.
