Shall I Take The Job A Offer or Wait for The Final Interviews at Job B?

Long story short. I went to an job interview (A) 3 weeks ago, did well and was told to hear back soon. 3 weeks on and nothing has happened and then this afternoon someone called me and offered me a position in full time.

Only thing is I also went to another job interview (B) about 1 week after, and I have now gone through 2 interviews with Job B and they want me to go one last interview with regional manager.

Hours are about the same, only differences are Job B is 15 mins further to where I live by driving. But Job B pays around $3000 better per year

What shall I do here? Never faced this kind of situation before. If I take job (A) offer would I be considered bad to tell (B) that I no longer wish to go ahead with the final interviews? And if I ask job (A) to wait till I get a result from job (B), would I make job (A) unhappy? Sorry I never faced this situation before so I am not sure what to do here?

  • Can't you negotiate pay on Job A? If they already want you $3k is probably worth it.

  • Coming from facing the same situation at least couple of times in my 15 year career, A bird in hand is better than none. Especially in this market!!! Numerous senior colleagues including C suite professionals have guided me and given this mantra "Always do what is right for you and your family and thereafter think about anyone else". My further 2cents as well be professional through due course and not burn the bridges but at times you will have to coz of situations like these.

  • Buy some time with Job A - Ask to match the Job B salary and see whether they accept or not? no harm in asking more to be honest.

  • decision should be made on which job will give you best long term prospects… which do you think has the better manager for you?

If it's B, just call Agency, tell them you have offer from A and are inclined to accept unless you hear back soon .. see if they can sort it quickly, if you're preferred they will. if not JobA

Take the job available and continue with the other job interview. If you get the job that pays more advise the first job you have been given a better offer in your probationary period and see if they will match it or better it.

If they don't then take the better paying job closer to home.

15 minutes further is equal to 30 minutes a day, now multiply that by approx 250 days you will be at work.

That's 125 hours in a year, not to mention a significant amount of fuel.

If it was me I'd be taking Job A.

  • I vote for Job C.

  • op: back when i was a uni graduate, after doing some interviews i literally had 3 job offers come in on the same morning. Incredibly difficult decision to make as on their own i would have taken them, however when trying to compare 3 roles it becomes much more difficult. In the end i chose the role that paid less however had a much better long term career path.

Dont worry about pissing off a company or an agent, to them your just a number and they would dismiss you in a heartbeat, you dont owe them anything.

  • Honestly the $3k is offset by the extra half an hour a day of your life. I don't think either should be the key to your decision. Which job has the better environment and long term prospects? I wouldn't throw away a solid offer for a chance at a different job unless that other job had significant benefits.

15-30 minutes a day means you have more time to go a quick workout before work, clean the house and do some chores.

  • I hardly rush b, either go short a or long a

  • OP already picked job A, rejected job B. Time to close the thread?

  • Tell the company who offered the job that you will want to consider the offer for 48 hours. (You could also ask a question re: Salary etc to negotiate).

Call the company you interviewed with that you have been offered another position and need an answer.

    All true and reasonable actions.

  • Take A but also go to the interview for B. See how that pans out and decide from there.

  • Thread closed as OP has made a decision
