Does Offering QFF for Sale a Violation of Terms and Conditions (Asking for a Friend; -) )

My friend told me that it is OK to sell QFF points, and show as gift to family and friends.
Is it OK?
I saw that they are listed in Classifieds. What if Qantas monitors Ozbargain? ;-)
I suspect some of my points might have already expired, but not sure of the policy. Is it that as long as you are earning them, they do not expire?

Their T&C's say yea nah but that doesn't stop people from flogging them off… Crackdown on sale of QFF Of course there are some risks involved but this should answer some of your questions: Can you Sell your Frequent Flyer points?

  • As long as you earn or redeem a single Qantas Points with 18 months, your balance will live on.

Qantas Points can only be transferred to select family members. They occasionally may audit accounts and ask for proof of relationship.

Transferring points to friends/non-related people is against the T&Cs, but that doesn't stop lots of people still doing it anyway.

Selling points to anyone (friends or family) is also against the T&Cs, but that one is harder to detect. It's mainly people transferring to non-relatives that might get caught.

    • Why would one sell to family instead of gifting?
Anyway, it seems to be a calculated gamble.

      • Points have value. There are times where using points make more sense even if they had to pay for it. Say, if your sister finds herself facing the choice of say 200k in points + $500 tax or $5000 cash for the same flights (obviously, I'm just making this up) but she doesn't have any QFF points. Even at 1c per point, the 200k she needs is still worth $2k and that is worth way more than what you can justify as a gift for her (even if you combine birthday and Christmas gifts for the year) and she probably wouldn't feel comfortable asking/mentioning in the first place. By offering to pay you $2k for the 200k points, she gets her $5000 flights for $2500. Why not?
