Even though the parameter looks different, actually gopro 7 8 9 are all using the same chip/CPU.
The only difference is the firmware which limit 'function' of old model.I think you will find theres a different sensor in there. You don't just magic up a new sensor with a "firmware function"

You can't firmware update a 4k resolution sensor filming 5k video.
@pentwo: No, you can do some research. Go pro 6 7 8 9 they are all using exactly the same GP1 sensor. The only difference is the firmware.

Starting from 6:44, it's explained everything. If you don't understand Chinese, it's ok, just see the lags of the screen. If you take 4K video, the front screen can display less than 10 frames per second…
As gopro didn't update the sensor and chips, the new gopro9 can't handle the high resolution and two screens very well, so you can see the significant lag when you using it.@PeppaCat: This YouTuber didn't say anything about the GoPro9 is using the same sensor.
I agree it's the same CPU chips but the lags of the screen just explained the old chips can't handle 5k sensor so well. So when you level down the video quality the front screen get smoother.
Where did you get the "using same sensor" info from?
Reading a lot of the reviews on Amazon and the like and there's several complains of overheating.. Guess that's what happens when you try to use an "action camera" in a static environment.
Clearly some people don't like it when someone states a fact that's found in numerous forums, reviews etc.
I personally was going to get one to take advantage of its timelapse and 4K/5K capability, but given the reports of overheating, figured that unless there's "active airflow" around it, it'll shut down after a while due to said overheating, thereby negating it's use in my instance with 3D printing / CNC work (and possibly the use cases of others).
Trying to get info out there for people who might not use this in an outdoorsy kinda way and I get negged for it. Thanks.
I just got the 9. Its much better than the 8. That front screen is amazing. If you are planning on buying the original accessories, then better to get the gopro subscription deal and get the 30%. The gopro 9 dual battery charger with spare battery has been constantly selling out on their website.
You can never actually save the 30% on the dual battery charger because unless you had a GoPro subscription beforehand, it doesn’t apply if it’s in your cart. And they don’t ship batteries if the GoPro is not in your cart even if you wanted to order separately…
It does discount it when in cart. I couldn't purchase as was out of stock at the time. I purchased the case for it at same time and discount was applied automatically. I never had subscription before . You can make the purchase of assessories anytime. The 30% discount is valid for the length of the membership. I've tried to purchase the charger and a mount, but then the mount went out of stock. They are really having stock supply issues! Could just get the charger as that qualifies for free shipping, but then if I want the mount later on will have to pay shipping as it's less than the free shipping amount.
Is GoPro max still the best 360 bang for buck , if wanting gopro ecosystem?
