I am just really curious of the benifits of such an app?

Anyone care to enlighten me on why an app like this is better than just taking a normal photo with the default camera app?

    Genuinely curious.

Not all camera apps have a scanner feature built in
That's about the only reason I can think of, unless the OCR actually reads the text and makes it into a .txt/.doc file or something. But I'm faily certain it won't do that.

Used some scanner app from the similar category. I find them useful as you sometimes took the photo at an angle and the receipt/page doesn't form a rectangle but more like a Trapezoid shape, these apps can alter the perception and stretch them out into perfect rectangle. Then they apply filters to make the white color part of the page really white and the black text stands out, just like a black and white scanner would do.

    • An app like this enables the results to be saved or sent as a PDF, much smaller than a picture. Multiple pages can be joined into a single document. Black and white text is enhanced, with the contrast increased, so that there is essentially just black and white text without shadows.

    Free feature in Dropbox

  • Is it better than camscanner?

  • Can't see any benefit over the free HP Smart app

I just use the Google Drive app built in scan function and upload direct to cloud. Any benefits of this over just using Google drive app which is free?
Edit: I think iori57 answered my question.

I found the free Adobe Scan app suits my needs well enough:

I've been using this app for many years. While I can't answer the technical queries many are asking, i can tell you this app does a much better job than a stock camera or even Google drive scan feature. Lots of different ways to process scanned images to get a best result. I often use to scan architectural plans when actual scanner is not available with amazing results.
I paid for the full version and consider this money well spent.
