Aftermarket Head Unit Install (Mitsubishi ASX MY15.5)

Hi everyone,

First forum post and wanted some advice/help for installing a new head unit. I am hoping to install a new Apple Carplay & Android Auto head unit into a Mitsubishi ASX MY15.5 (undecided on which head unit at the moment but leading to one of the larger brands (e.g. Kenwood, Pioneer, etc.)).

I just wanted to make sure that I get all the correct wiring harnesses and other parts needed for the install. I want to retain steering wheel controls and original reversing camera (installing a new reversing camera looks like a fair bit of work). Just wanted to see if these parts were correct & sufficient:
~ Head Unit fascia to suit
~ Wiring harness/adapter: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Aerpro-APP0113-Primary-ISO-Harne…
~ Steering wheel harness: https://www.autobarn.com.au/aerpro-stereo-steering-wheel-con…
~ reversing camera adapter: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Aerpro-APVMT01-Video-Retention-H…

I am not sure what a secondary harness is (seen it mentioned on some sites)? Will I need one (or does this depend on the type of head unit?)

  • Don’t get the adaptors until you decide on a head unit. While most of them are standard, some have little differences in my experience.

From memory the aerpro adaptors have two parts. On from head unit to aerpro plug and then aerpro plug to vehicle harness. It probably reduces the number of harnesses they need to make and also increases their profit margin by selling two bits.

    • I am not looking to buy a used Head Unit. I am asking for advice regarding wiring and parts.

      • That is a genuine one with apple car play from a later model. You plug it in and go, everything works perfectly as it should. But you do it your way.

        • Ahh I get you now. Will keep that in mind when sourcing parts :)
