Converting a Sheer Roller Blind into a Block out / Black out The OzBargain Way

We have a double-stacker sliding door that is facing (on an angle) our neighbour's second story windows. We wanted some privacy and so got some sheer roller blinds which work perfectly well during the day but not so well at night time when the lights are on i.e. they are fairly transparent when backlit. We underestimated how much you'll be able to see through at night time at the time we ordered the blinds. Putting a second track for a block out / black out blind isn't particularly practical due to space constraints (for mounting the roller) and it would also eat into the room a bit more. Unfortunately, cannot mount anything on the inside frame of the sliding door.

So my question is, what is the cheapest and most effective way to convert the sheer blinds into block out / black out blinds?

  1. Pay to swap out the sheer into black out, hoping that the company will give us a deal from returning the sheer for their own recycling / re-use (unlikely!)
  2. Something else…

Thanks gang!

Install a light outside that shines towards the sliding door.

We have both - sheer and blockout on the one bracket. They are practically stacked on each other, taking up minimal room. We can't see the sheer roller for the blockout roller.

It has the blind coming down on opposite sides. See https://lirp-cdn.multiscreensite.com/c97dcf07/dms3rep/multi/… as an example.

Eg. Sheer comes down on the inside. Blockout comes down on the other side of the roller.

    Voila!

    • Wow thanks - will investigate this. My only concern is around the cord - we've got a split in the roller blind (i.e. one blind the width of a door for facilitating the opening and a second blind going the remaining width) so we've already got a few cords going on and now likely to double.

Let's hope we get a decent deal!

  • Same as above here too.
