Buying eBay Giftcards Using Etihad Rewards Points

Hi Guys,

First time posting here just to get suggestions please :)

I have had a lot of points just sitting there on my Etihad Rewards and from time to time they expire as well. Also don't see myself travelling any time soon so I had a look at items on the Etihad Rewards store and pretty much everything seems to be overpriced in terms of how many points you need to spend to get it.

I am now thinking of using my Etihad rewards points to get Ebay vouchers and then using them towards getting something when a good deal comes by on eBay. This way Im thinking I might be able to offset what Etihad overcharge in terms of converting points to vouchers.

I have 131,214 Rewards Points and a $100AUD ebay voucher is 10,600 Rewards points so I can get 12 x $100AUD eBay vouchers.

I am looking for any suggestions if this is a good idea or if I should get something else instead of eBay vouchers using the Etihad Rewards Points?

Any guidance would be appreciated :)

Do you need to book any Virgin Australia flights in the near future? Etihad points can be fairly good value for that. Otherwise, gift cards are a safe choice…

    • Thanks for your reply theoracle30, no travel plans in the near future, that's why I'm thinking of spending these points cuz I know they will eventually expire even though there's some extension on expiry dates offered by Etihad due to Covid I think.

If you are going to worry about the points then just take the cash (eBay vouchers). You are getting almost 1c per point and there is no guarantee that you will be able to use them for long haul business class anytime soon.
