27" Monitor Recommendation [$250-350] - Wait for Prime Day?

I'm on the lookout for a new 27" monitor to replace my now-busted Samsung. Used for work and light gaming as part of a 2-monitor setup.

Historically, I've settled for whatever monitor was given to me as handmedowns so I've gone down rabbitholes to figure out what I should look for.

Needs
HDMI
Displayport
VGA (old work laptop) Duh - can be accomplished with an adapter
VESA compatible
IPS
Freesync/Gsync

Nice to have
USB

I was moments away from ordering one of these before realising that Prime Day is next week.

AOC 27" 27G2E5

Kogan 27" QHD IPS FreeSync 75Hz Frameless Monitor

Are my bearings off by looking at the above?

Cheers

  • Wait for Prime Day?

Yes, its only 5 days away

  • Wait for the Dell S2121D to come back nvm doesn't have VGA

    • I've updated the post to remove the requirement so I'll take a look at this one. Thanks!

  • I bought this 31.5" Acer Curved unit for @ $315?
Though they are $265 at Umart

    No USB

    • I'll give it a look, thanks. I hadn't thought to look at curved but I'm into it.

      • IPS is generally flat only, usually curved is either VA or TN (can't remember which as I'm in the IPS only faction)

      • I run Windows & MacOS on my Ryzentosh on it, with an 8GB RX580. No games though (other than Starcraft/C&C-showing my age).

  • Not sure, but there might be some deals on Dell monitors tomorrow as it has been every Friday for last 2-3 weeks, so would definitely wait at least until tomorrow.

  • Maybe consider a VGA to hdmi adaptor to give you more options.

    • Thanks mate. I feel really dumb for not thinking of that

  • I've had the 27G2 for about 2 months now and so far so good.
Initially there was a line across the bottom of the screen when watching movies but that hasn't appeared for awhile now so hope its all good.
About $10 to $20 over your budget though.

    • Thanks Mate. I'll keep a look out on Prime Day.
Sidenote, how are there so many people with dead pixels/lines on their brand new monitors? I haven't noticed anything brand specific but it's a bit concerning to read about.

  • I don't think VGA can deliver more than FHD resolution, do you have other devices that can utilise HDMI or DP? And kind of game do you play with how much fps?
