  • What's the difference between this USB mic and the other USB condenser mics with arm stand and same accessories? E.g. I bought a NEEWER brand version for around ~$60aud delivered from Amazon a few months back.

    • @anthman can you link please? This fits my budget - first time looking into mics for voice recording (podcast / voice over on youtube vids)

Also what were some things that you personally considered when researching / purchasing? My knowledge in this field is very close to 0…

    • Any feedback? Did you get the usb or the one that requires phantom power?

Looking for one to use for voice over and recording singing.

      • this is a USB plug and play one. no extra power required.

    • Has anybody got any feedback on the NEEWER one? It looks good for YouTube voiceovers.

You can pick up the nw-8000 (usb) the same as linked above for $50 here

I hear the USB one is better due to a lower noise floor, it uses its own audio processing as opposed to your computer's. I was considering this one for a while but decided to purchase an audio interface + a dynamic microphone instead. While it may cost more, it provides better sound quality, especially for vocals and rejects background noise better (esp. if you're not in a sound-treated environment). The neewer and the maono are likely to pick up background noise and kids much louder.

        • Considering the USB version, but any comparable differences to the cheaper audio jack version from same company?

Also there seems to be $25 ones on ebay lol - what would I needs to know when separating the good from the bad? cheers

    • Different brand and different build, we haven't made comparison with other condenser mics but you can find a lot review videos on youtube for Maonao mic. We are working directly with the factory and distribute locally in Australia with quicker local delivery.

I was looking at these in the middle of the year (around when the neewer deal was on ozbargain) after deciding the USB made more sense to me.

The equivalent of this deal direct from Maono store on Aliexpress is $84.82 + GST - i.e. $35.70 cheaper than this deal.

Anyhow I ended up getting The Maono PM422 from Aliexpress for USD $86.35 (I think around AU $130?) as it had the gain control, a mute button and a headphone jack.

The downside was the 8 weeks or so it took to turn up.

The shipping time from Amazon would be much better, especially if the stock is already in AU.

The mic works well from what I can tell - I am only initially using it for MS Teams/Zoom videoconference.

As a bonus, I was able to use the Smallrig clamp to hold a Firefly 7s action cam together with the Mic as one great WFH videoconference rig that can easily position when speaking or swings out of the way when not.

Don't believe the "24-bit" claim. The S/N ratio on this microphone is 74dB, equivalent to 12.3 bits of signal. They only added a 24-bit ADC to give the illusion of higher quality. There will be no difference between running this at 16-bit resolution and 24-bit resolution, all you will be doing is storing an extra eight bits of noise.

Judge microphones by their S/N ratio, not by the number of bits they claim.

    • Thanks for the comments. we will pass this info to our marketing person for rewording if this is a confusing statement.

      THE LIBERAL GOVERNMENT

      • Don’t blame me, I voted informal

  • Looks like a generic rebranded Neewer mic. Cheaper in Amazon and half the price.

    No deal

    • This is not a "rebranded Neewer mic", Maono is a separate brand with own tech and development team.

  • I bought this for $36.99. No doubt it is a cheap generic version but I have been pleasantly surprised how good the mic is. Not an audiophile so maybe the OPs deal is a better version but for half the price I am twice as happy.

    • congrats for the purchase. different brand may provide your different quality though.

  • I started looking for microphones after seeing the Neewr models on Ozbargain but once I searched a bit more, went for the Maono due to the many reviews on amazon and elsewhere, most commented on the quality of the microphone being very good.
    They are not generic.

    • thanks a lot Vegan.
