RX570 8GB $179 + Delivery @ Shopping Express - good deal?

Hi all,

I noticed that Shopping Express have the Asus ROG Strix RX570 8GB on sale for about $190 shipped right now, which seems reasonably cheap compared to recent deals. Wondering if this was a good deal?

For context, I'm just looking to upgrade my 'old' i5-3450/8GB RAM desktop that I use for uni work, photo/video editing and light 1080p gaming (FSX/other simpler Steam games). It doesn't have a graphics card right now, and I've heard that the RX570 is just about the best I can get without CPU bottlenecking. Is this a good option for me? Curious to hear your thoughts!

Thanks!

  • I bought a MSI rx570 8gb about 2 weeks ago, think it was $215. Also put it in an older computer, i7-4790 just so i could play some of the many free accumulated games from ozb while waiting for ps5 to arrive.

Been playing assassins creed unity at FHD 30fps with no issues (except playing games using a keyboard is ergonomic suicide). I'm not a pc master race gamer elitist at all, but seems fine to my old eyes. Could never understand paying thousands for a graphics card… no doubt will get a thousand comments now telling me I bought the wrong card, have the wrong pc, wrong monitor, "8k 400FPS or die" etc

I have RX 560 to play battlefield on low settings

    • Thanks for the reply! Not sure why somebody downvoted you - different strokes for different folks, I guess. It's good to hear that you've been having good experiences with the RX570 - I think I might just make the purchase…

Did you buy it yet? I'd suggest this instead for an extra $29 https://www.pcbyte.com.au/store/product/galax-nvidia-geforceā€¦

Reliable Nvidia drivers, plus it's about 20% faster according to UserBenchmark.

        • Hey, thanks for the reply (and sorry for the late response…) - I decided to hold off on the purchase for now, but I'll be sure to check out the GTX1650 when I'm in the market. Thanks!

It is a decent price, but this card is already like 3 years old. You can probably expect next-gen card to launch at end of this year to start of next year with 1.5-2x performance at the same price. Don't bother waiting if you want one asap.

    • Thanks for the reply! I think I might just go for the RX570 then - not sure whether the increased performance is worth it for my current PC.

do next gen cards really launch around the $200 mark?

      • +2

Launch price probably not, ozbargain price probably yes.

I am looking for a gpu for around $200 to tide me over until I do a full PC upgrade likely early next year this seems like a pretty good deal, anyone else got any better suggestions?

I remember buying a Rx 470 at msy for $239 4 years ago just before the mining craze. Can't believe they're still sold at around that price.
