COTD: Salter Scales & Body Fat/Muscle/Water Analyser $38.90 Delivered

70

Yeah, I know it's COTD, but Salter is a known brand and cheapest I can find elsewhere is $94.89 here: http://www.langtoninfo.co.uk/showitem.aspx?isbn=501077712135…. The one review on Amazon gave it four stars: http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B000FTFXN0/ref=dp_to…

EDIT: There have been weird things on the COTD today. At the moment, the original link is down and they seem to have replaced that model with this (which I wouldn't recommend): http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/smallfish_info.php?products_…

It might be worth waiting a while to see if the original deal returns. Very strange even from COTD! If it doesn't return I'm happy for this deal to be deleted.

i can get onto their website, so this can't possibly be a good deal…

  • I want one that says 'One Person at a time please'.

i got a $15 aldi one with same features a while back. still working fine.

http://www.choice.com.au/reviews-and-tests/food-and-health/d…. according to them the $20 aldi one works just as good as a $170 one.

    • I've been waiting for that one to come back for ages.

    • I'm looking for that one to come back too

  • I bought one off ebay and it wasn't very good…So I guess buyer beware? It's weighing component was fine but the body fat component wasn't very good…

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2-7CM-SLIM-DIGITAL-BATHROOM-ELECT…

I tried to find the aldi one but couldn't before so i just went for one of these…It measured my body fat percentage as 20% Though calipers gave me a 12% measurement. I think its worthwhile investing in a branded one!

    • Did you buy the same brand off ebay or did you buy the one that you linked? Two separate items…

      • Sorry didn't make my point clear haha!

Yeah like i bought a no-name brand and it gave me ridiculously inaccurate readings…So i think Salter is a reputable brand and for 40bucks its not bad (since the aldi one is no longer available)

you'll pay at least 25 for getting one on ebay and theres a high chance itll be inaccurate. If you're just after normal scales then I think the ones on ebay are fine, but if you're a guy (or girl) who wants to keep track of your muscle mass and body fat then I think 40bucks is a pretty good price!

        • the problem is price doesn't necessarily equate to better accuracy, just more bling.

        • Haha I can see your point…I guess the only sure fact is…Don't buy the one I did. Reading the choice review, it seems that of all the models tested the maximum amount of variation for body fat was 2% either side…the better scoring ones had a variation of 1%. 8% variation is a lot (I've reread the instructions and did it with underwear only and the results were still bad)

    • where were you measuring body fat? the feet scale are only going to give an estimate of the fat on your legs.

i think these things are more useful at giving relative indications, ie, the % fat value has decreased so you are losing fat, rather than giving an absolute measurement of fat.

      • The 5 points - Posterior of Scapula, Abdominals, Triceps, Biceps and Chest. From my understanding it should be a measure of your whole body? Regardless, I actually have the most lean muscle mass in my legs in comparison to my abdominals and chest. Compared to pictures on bodybuilding.com forums, I'm quite sure my 12% measurement was correct!

  • product seems to have disappeared.

    • Yeh youre right, what happened there?

      • The link was working when I first clicked it, sent it to a friend, and he asked me what I was linking, haha, strange! Don't neg the OP, this is weird.

  • keen to hear more reviews because I was under the belief this was a branded one?

    • The original post was for a branded one - Salter. COTD have since taken it off and replaced it with another brand - Taylor - which I haven't heard of before.

  • Looks like it's been taken off the site.

  • Sold out and replaced with a different brand.

I think this deal would be best left here, rather than deleted or unpublished. It's good to have this as a reminder of what the store might do (and what we have to watch out for) :S

    • Agreed… COTD went a notch down for doing this… it might be considered "bait and switch"…

  • Do they usually do this? Have one brand of a product available, then replace it with another (possibly less well known) brand when the first one runs out?

    • Not sure about usually but I'd say it's not uncommon for them to do it. I've seem this a number of times before with COTD.

For everyone that missed out these scales have been marked $29 at my local harvey norman for a while now (Castle Hill)

  • "Yeah, I know it's COTD"
Well no, you obviously don't going by your post :P

    • Eh?

I was lucky enough to order one in time. We'll see what happens.

  • are the well loved aldi scales a specific brand?

    • The Aldi one which was so well-reviewed in the CHOICE link above was a "Visage Body Analyzing 4527"
