Wireless Car Play Adaptors - Do They Work?

Hi,

I have seen a few different devices on the market to enable wireless on your Car Play such as a CPLAY2AIR and CARLINKIT.
I know people will say you often want to charge the phone anyway so need to plug it in but I like the convenience, hassle and mess free ability of wireless.
They are a bit pricey for around $200 but my concern is I have read many mixed (and many negative) reviews.

Anyone have any real life experiencing using a wireless CarPlay adaptor?

You often want to charge the phone anyway so need to plug it in.
If you have read many negative reviews I would advise you that is your answer and you may be like me looking for an excuse to buy one anyway.

Once you have a wireless CarPlay head unit it is pretty hard to go back to USB. I put a wireless CarPlay head unit in my car Older Mazda and was very pleased I did. And I have a tip, you can still plug your iPhone in and use wired CarPlay if your phone needs charging! I know! Amazing right?

I am about to get a new main car which of course won’t have wireless CarPlay. I intend to try out carplay2air, but that is all a month or two away.

  • I have the Cplay2Air and it works well. Occasionally, every 4 - 5 car starts I will need to unplug & replug for it to recognise - it doesn't work every time. I bought the CarlinKit one on eBay for my 2nd car but couldn't get it to work. Even though it is supposed to work with Iphones the eBay seller thinks it may only work on Android. So I have returned it.

For charging I want to avoid plugging in my phone constantly. My iPhone supports wireless charging so I bought a magnetic wireless charger that plugs into the car power outlet. Works well.

  • I’ve had the carlinkit for a few years works great, used it in a Jeep Cherokee and now a Nissan navara, was about $115 off eBay. Use it with a iPhone 13 max.

    • Can you explain how you installed it?

      • It's been awhile just followed the instructions originally, when I swapped from the jeep to a Nissan Navara in January it just worked straight away didn't have to do anything, some cars they don't work with though I have read.

There is different ones for android and iPhones I think.
Mine has never missed a beat.
