    Is this just a fan?

    • +1

Yes & comes with 5 year warranty.

      • +1

Ahh the 5 year warranty would be the bulk of the cost here, makes sense

    • +1

      It’s an air circulator

      • It's…. Vornado

        • +1

          A violent tornado.

    • It's a bloody powerful fan. put it on max on 40c day if you got no A/C and it will be your savior.

It fits in a school sized backpack, I take this monster to work in the A/C-less office and everyone got one soon after.

The rushing air is acually very white noise like a pleasing hum.

    • Indoor plant enthusiasts.

  • +1

Damn would have liked one of the large size ones.

    • Check Costco. Vornado 660 for about $150. Best thing in summer and reduces AC usage significantly.

      • how loud is it?

        • +8

Settings 1 and 2 perfectly fine for sleep.

          Setting 3 borderline.

          Setting 4 tornado storm.

          • +1

@Hybroid: Ha ha. Quite like how you have summarized the settings. Spot on.

          • @Hybroid: if someone made a cheaper generic dyson-style "bladeless" fan would they be a better buy?

            • @marcozmitch: Depends what you want, a fan or room air circulator? They're not the same thing.

            • @marcozmitch: Dyson has many patents, preventing clones.

    • +1

ditto and also a DC version!

    • ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • are these good directional fans ?

    • +2

      For industrial use/gaseous flow? No.

For direct air flow onto yourself? No.

      For room air circulation? Yes.

      • They’re great for airflow onto yourself in my experience

        • +1

In peak summer when you're meltingly sprawled on the sofa and need it facing directly at you, sure, do that too.

But the lack of oscillation means it's not actually designed for direct flow and would be better off with a decent pedestal or bladeless fan.

        • Works much better than a regular fan for those 40c days. Just because the airflow is so high on max, you really do feel cool as.

  • I have used this for over 2 years, very good at this price.

  • +1

Call me ignorant but is this just a … small fan for $90?

    • +5

Ignorance is not bothering to ask and keeping your lack of knowledge or information. Doesn't apply here.

Vornados are not traditional fans in that you don't point them at the object (you) you want to cool. They're designed to be angled within a room to circulate a large volume of air quickly that cools the entire room pretty effectively.

In the same way when building a PC, there's 2 main types of fans: static pressure (for heat sinks/radiators) or high airflow (for cases).

A Vornado is static pressure. A regular pedestal fan is high airflow.

Thanks for the analogies and explanation! :)

      • I just can’t decide if these are great or this is just marketing hype. Many love and many dislike them and choice rate them below many much cheaper fans. Even an $18 big w fan scores better. I want one but just not convinced.

        • CHOICE magazine not impressed with Vornado or Dysons either for that matter. Lower rated than many much cheaper fans on "airflow score"

"The airflow score is determined by measuring airflow speed at various points at maximum speed and calculating airflow volume."

          • @shaybisc: Yeah, seems to make sense that the higher the airflow on your body means better cooling effect.

        • +2

It's going to be a subjective thing. I love mine (larger 660 model), it works and it does reduce the amount of AC I use during summer.

It's not perfect: there's no oscillation (kinda the point of it), the button settings are poorly thought out, switching on defaults to max setting 4 and you cannot use any auto-on plugs (digital or manual). Also can be considered noisy compared to standard fans.

However, it moves air! And does it very very well. Which is it's intended purpose.

I would suggest maybe pick one up from Costco and return if you're not impressed (double check returns policy).

          • @Hybroid: Thanks not a bad idea or maybe Amazon, I just returned a quest after using to us for full refund based on fact I didn't think it was good value.

  • +2

Have had one of these for a year and love it.

Cools a warm room down quickly. You can aim it diagonally across the room and upwards and it will circulate air better than a typical fan.

  • That's a good price. I have one. Rated…

  • +1

    Looks like its all gone.

  • Nice OP

  • +2

God damn, a minute after I go to bed

  • Does anyone know if these are good under the computer desk for those long gaming sessions

  • Too late for this deal but I think I've just drank the coolade on this one after reading responses here and a good google session. They're really that good huh? Good for spreading heat and cool around and good in the mid seasons it seems… dammit I'ma go pay full price now too. And recommendations of Vornado to room size?

    • +1

Someone suggested Costco has the large for a good price, if that helps.

  • looking for some air cooling for my pergola, which has a 2 layer poly transparent roof, now with some vines, but still gets warm. Pergola is attached to teh back of the house. Could I use one of these to move air around under the pergola or would an overhead fan still be a better option?
