  • it's impossible to travel now, I'd really wanna learn some guitar

    • I decided to learn guitar seriously last year, never had any regret. It's so fun to just pick up an instrument and being able to play songs. It's a really addicting feeling.

I use youtube to learn most of the chords etc. I would recommend you search Justin Guitar, Guitarzero2hero and Andy Guitar off youtube. They teach me the basic chords and strumming patterns.

If you want to test the water, just get a cheap guitar and see if you like it.

      • hey, examples of beginner's guitar? thanks.

For electric, I would go Yamaha Pacifica 112 or Ibanez GIO series
For acoustic, interestingly, I still love the el cheapo Montarey one I got of JB Hifi for less than 100 bucks. Now, I've done a few things to it though to make it playable, changed the tuner head (~$15 off amazon) and string (Would really recommend either D'Addario XT or the Nickel Bronze uncoated).

If you are looking for a beginner's guitar that does not need work out of the box but still sounds great, I would go either a Fender CD-60S ($340 ish) or Yamaha FG800 ($349) or Epiphone AJ-220 S ($449).

If you can find it, I also highly recommend the Alvarez AF66SHB (https://www.alvarezguitars.com/guitar/af66shb/). Of all the above recommendations, the Alvarez beats them all in terms of looks, sound, and built quality. Such a nice guitar to play.

          Hope it helps.

          • @Azuremaverick: Thanks so much, will check these out. Prefer the acoustic I think, for beginners?

I do need to verify if I have any musical bone in my body first :D

Another option is something like this from Artist Guitars. I just started learning guitar a few months ago and I'd never heard of these guys and was going to buy one of the cheap beginner packs from one of the well-known guitar brands. I came across these and looked up some reviews and people rated them very highly - better than the cheap beginner guitars from known brands. It's an Australian company that has the guitars made in Asia. I've found it to be great value. I'll probably replace the amp pretty soon because it's not particularly great, but I suspect that will be the case for any small beginner amp like these.

For beginners, electric seems to be the recommended way to go for most. Justin Guitar certainly recommends electric for beginners.

      • I've played guitar before, know basics but thanks, this is interesting one, is there any Cashback on this?

  • I'd buy this in China's Taobao, shows 2888RMB for me which is $594

  • This looks very tempting. Me likes. Looks very well setup. Low action and easy to use fretboard. Rechargeable effects unit via USB. Perfect for travel. Do I need another guitar to add the collection?

Number of guitar you need = Number of guitar you own + 1 :P

I'm tempted to get one, but with my current skill level this thing would go to waste… Plus just literally bought the Mustang LT50 2 weeks ago… can't justify it.

  • I really want to see one of these before I buy one.

  • I think buying a guitar is a personal thing, you really need to try one in person to see how it feels, rather than buying online, just my opinion.

    • Yep

  • Amazon prime you can just return it yes?
