Apparently you can only take this course if you have a child or are a carer for a child under the age of 12. I couldn't find this written anywhere and they didn't ask me when I booked.
Due to the duration and nature of this course, no children are permitted.

  • You might want to add that you can only take this course if you have a child or are a carer for a child under the age of 12. Don't know they they will be able to ensure that you do, but would be good to point out!

    • I couldn't find this written anywhere and they didn't ask me when I booked. Updated anyway just in case. Thanks for pointing it out.

  • I have tried on several ocassion and have not been able ot get to that number.

    • It does take quite a few tries before you get through and when you do it will most likely be an answering machine, so leave your details and they will get back to you. I think it took 2-3 days before they called back, but there was still some spots left for my partner and I thank goodness, and we were happy with how the course was delivered and it was good to learn the latest methods/techniques, so worth going if you get a spot(s).

I've registered numerous times but never got on a course. Dud!

I missed out last round too. It's limited to 20 places per site I'm told. Since when did that stop an OzBarginer having another go at getting a $125 first aid course for free?

      • It isn't an accredited first aid course - just covers the basics, and doesn't give you a certificate at the end.

        • Better than nothing i say!

If you've done the whole course then thats great - but if someone out there hasn;t done anything.. This might be enough to save their childs life!)

          Just my 2c :)

the only dud here is your neg vote

    • It's not a dud. I registered a friend and myself for the last round and got accepted with no problems. I gave up trying to do it via telephone though and did it via email.

It would be useful if they held it at different locations each year though. Not everyone in Queensland lives near one of the five locations where it is held.

  • If it helps, for the parents only info, on the page the OP linked it says "…which will enable Target to take the St. John Kidsafe First Aid program nationally to 1000 carers of children under 12." and it also says on the pdf you can download for locations (the nsw one at least) "for parents and carers of children 12 years and under."

I think it sux that they'd restrict this to any one group…

A childless person, who comes upon an injured child,
would have no less need to know how best to respond
    than anyone else.

    • +1

But the probability of a parent with a child encountering an injured child is statistically higher.

  • Take note, this isn't the common HLTFA301B Apply First Aid course, it seems to be a home-made lite course. The flyer mentions that you may like to upgrade to Senior First Aid (superseded).
