Best RTX 2070 Super Deal? Or My Best Option?

I tried to get the deal yesterday with the SSD but it sold out almost instantly.
The only others I could find with Ebay Plus were too big for my build, I need it to be a max of about 45mm to fit into my Node 202 (build:https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/TwCRBc)

I know there will be deals once the 3070/3060 is released, however, I don't have any GPU at the moment. I also considered buying a 1660 or a RX580 for a temporary option, but these are still pretty $$ when the 2070S have dropped to just over $500.

The 2nd hand market is also absolutely baffling, people are asking for more than the RRP prices for all GPUs.

Is anyone aware of any good deals on the 2070 super? Ideally around the $550 mark, the best I can find is about $600.

  • Hoping something comes up on amazon prime. Unlikely though based on the utterly crap discounts & items they are offering though. Now regretting not buying a 2060(s) with the ebay 20% off last night. Might just have to accept that we won't get 2070 supers below 500 before they sell out everywhere?

    • Yep, I think we will see -$500 once the 3070 releases but I can't wait.

My current build would have cost about $1700, with all the discounts and getting a 2nd hand SFX PSU I have spent $1240.

So if I have to spend a bit more on the GPU I guess it isn't too bad.

      • I just have to hope all stock isn't gone by then (end of the year or early next)

  • There have been 2070 Super deals basically every day for the past 3 days and all around $550. Just create a search alert and get in quick.

    • I know, I have missed them all! I tried to get the Ebay plus ones but Ozbargainers are too quick. Falling under the 45mm height is annoying too.

I don't know if I bite the bullet and just pay $600 or wait a few days.

I will set an alert now though!

      • wait for something that may not show, or buy now and enjoy now…?

  • just get a 2060 Super instead

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Gigabyte-GeForce-RTX-2060-SUPER-…

    $539.00

I'd be worried about a GPU getting choked in that case though.

    • The performance difference I have seen is quite a bit, for example, it runs Fortnite at +29% EFPS even if it costs me $50 more it's probably worthwhile.

I know the case is a bit small but people have built the 2070S in it before: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/builds/by_part/GsZ2FT#g=447

I also added 2 case fans to sit over the GPU to help with thermals and might add a few 40mm exhaust fans if needed.

I was looking at a 2070 such as: https://www.asus.com/au/Graphics-Cards/TURBO-RTX2070S-8G-EVO… it seems like its designed for spaces with limited airflow.
      Whats your thoughts on this?

  • In the same boat here. Got a heap of cheap parts on the way from last nights Ebay deals including an i7 10700kf for $463. Just need a GPU, but its completely the wrong timing.

I would like a 2070 Super for now for $500 while the GPU 2020 wars iron themselves out, then I will look to upgrade :)

  • Been lots of 2070 Supers in that ball park the last week or so…..got mine for about $485 last night minus discounts and excluding the SSD on the Ebay Plus thing. I was holding out until I could get one under $500 but saw multiple ones in the $550 range over the last week.

  • Hey, just jumping in to give my two cents worth. I was one of those that were lucky enough to get the Ebay CA deal. Just received my card yesterday and I am now waiting for the cashback and the SSD. Since I was on the fence about getting an SSD for another project anyway, this does seem like an acceptable tradeoff. If all the goodies come in, my final purchase price for the card itself is $460.

My original plan was to buy an RTX 3080. When that did not pan out, I tried to get a second hand 2070 for 450 - 500. That failed. The plan was to wait for the RTX 3070 till the end of the month or for an RTX 3080 mid next year.

What I will say though is that i wasn't expecting to get it, so my plan was to get a basic card to wait it out. I would suggest a 4GB RX5500XT on discount or second hand for $200 second hand, $250 new (or 8GB for say $30 - $40 more) OR an old GTX 1070 for $250 - $300(i do see lots of sellers willing to drop prices on 1070 on ebay). Both these cards will do well for the next year while you wait for a better offer on an RTX 3070 or RTX 3060 (or cheaper 2070).

At the end, its best to get something now that you can use satisfactorily and still get some amount of value from when you dispose of it. Don't fall for the hype of needing to pay extra. YOU never do and you always end up being those sellers on Ebay selling cards at ridiculous prices..

    • I pretty much did what you suggested last week, I have all my other parts for my PC but my GPU so I couldn't afford to wait.
I was originally going to get an RX580 as a temporary option as they are about $200, but I saw the performance difference between 1660S for about $100 more.

I paid $320 for a gigabyte 1660S, If I would have waited for another deal I could probably get it for $280 but the $50 wasn't worth holding up my entire build.
Once the 3060 is released hopefully the cards will drop massively and I can upgrade this and resell for $200-$250, who knows it might be enough for what I need it for anyway!

      Thanks!

      • Resell a 1660S for 200 bucks after 3060 release? That's hopeful.

        • People are successfully selling 2070 supers for $600+ despite them going for less new.
I even saw someone trying to sell a 1060 super for $450 the other day.

I don't think $200 is out of the question, but we will see.
