Inputs for Cube Timer and Mat - Moyu Vs Yuxin V2 Vs Qiyi Vs YJ

Hello Folks,

I was hoping if someone has any inputs on which timer and mat is best for cubers? My 9y son has starting with cubing recently and since he is liking it, will like to make things more interesting for him:

MoYu : $24~ for timer and mat.

Yuxin v2: $24~ for timer alone

QiYi: $23~ for timer and mat

YJ: $17 ~ for timer alone

I understand SpeedStacks Gen 4 Pro Timer is the best but I don't want to spend that much money at the moment.

Cheers,
Andy

    Hi Andy,

It's great to hear about a young kid taking an interest in cubing!

I'm in total agreement on SpeedStacks, they are unnecessary. The only time you have to encounter them is at official competitions. Personally I would go with the QiYi.

For the sake of completeness I'll comment on each.

    Moyu:
Least preferred, just a timer, the flashing lights are distracting, does not work reliably with customer (website for cube timing)

    Yuxin:
Pretty decent, design is bulkier, lights aren't as strong, connects to cstimer

    QiYi:
Excellent design with hand pads at an angle, practically indestructible, only downside is that it doesn't work with cstimer

    YJ:
Same as Moyu but cheaper and works with cstimer

So in summary QiYi unless you really want to connect the timer to the computer then go for a Yuxin. Also large gaming mouse pads are a good substitute for mats.
