Budget Small Phone with Tethering

Hi folks,
Need help for a senior gentleman who wants to replace his old flip phone with some small size smart phone(he doesn’t want large size) which he can use it for tethering his Samsung 7” tablet. His budget is $100.

I do remember seeing Telstra, Huawei, Alcatel brands posted here under $100. I can’t seem to find any phones which are small in size. Something like 4” ones! His primary applications are phone calls, SMS and now tethering. He uses a Telstra prepaid sim, so doesn’t mind if a recommended phone is locked to Telstra!!

Please suggest.

    Refurbished Apple iPhone 5S?

    • I was thinking about iPhone 5S or the first gen SE. But I am not sure if they are available for under $100. Also I am not sure if he would be keen on buying a refurbished phone. I shall check with him!

      • Around $100-120 I reckon you could get something. I only suggest an iPhone as the size is what you are looking for and it is very easy to use especially for Seniors since you say he only wants to tether/hot spot his tablet, calls and sms.

        Maybe something from Alacatel or Nokia would be an option.

    Pro-tip:
    It is possible you may need your Carrier (Telstra) to issue a Nano SIM.
    This is a 5 minute task at any Telstra Shop, you take the old Mobile SIM in and they port over to a Nano SIM

    or $79 from
    https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/tel…

    • I used to cut SIMs with a pair of scissors back then to fit in micro/nano trays. lol.

      btw, this would be a good choice, AUS POST also sells similar phones with free delivery, got similar one (Optus branded Alcatel one, can't remember the exact model) for FIL some time back.

      $79 = https://auspost.com.au/shop/product/telstra-essential-5-4g-m…

      @holdenmg
      The ones listed on Telstra website seem to be latest one but looks like they are all larger ones!!
      The kmart option seems to be the right one so far!!
      Thank you very much mate!!

      EDIT: Just realised, the kmart stores might not be open yet here in Melbourne and that particular item web page says "In-store only":(

      @bazinga,

      Auspost also seems to have the newer ones. So they got bigger screens!!

        check your local, they often clear out the unsold junkie phones for cheap. Just make sure it is a Telstra variant.
