FreeSampleOffers.com.au + Amaysim deal = What THE?

I dunno how or when, but somehow I've signed up to freesampleoffers.com.au and get a daily email **

Usually it's some marketing survey rubbish deal, but recently a couple of "decent sounding" deals were mentioned. Today was an Amaysim SIM deal that looked tempting.

But when I click the links, or even load them manually, they fail.

Here's today's as a HTML page: http://www.ioffers.com.au/view.html?x=a62e&m=HS&mc=z&s=wHS&y…

They are tracking me (see, it says "John Don't Miss This Exclusive Product Offer" (that's my name)

The number of HTML links in that page makes me feel like they learnt marketing by selling viagra via email spam!

Anyway - who the hell are these people? Does anyone else get sent the offers? Do the links work for anybody? Should I just block them?

** Info: I make a new email alias for each "deal", so I can check who spams me. The email that they are coming in on is a "nestles" one, but I've stuffed up and not been specific enough. Now I cannot remember

Was it Mamamia… http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/54898

Or was it this one… http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/55591

I did get a coffee sample, but I dunno who sent it to me LOL

  • The links on that page work for me. They all go to the Amaysim home page after going through their click counter.

Now they are going to send you tons more spam now that "you've clicked hundreds of times" on the offers page thanks to us. :)

Are you falling asleep when your partner is randy? Maybe she sent you the coffee. ;)

HMMMM - I wonder if I have the website blocked in my hosts file? YEP, it loads now… something in the hosts file was blocking it.

Pretty poxy Amaysim deal, absolutely nothing special at all!

Might just unsubscribe, seems a total waste of email traffic

  • I think it was the second one. Look at the direct URL link on the second one.

I clicked on the View Here Now button and it redirected to http://www.amaysim.com.au/?cid=edm_Unl_3492788
Do you have some sort of ad or script blocker?

The coffee sample would've been from Mamamia.

Edit: I think you should redact that offer link. I managed to click Unsubscribe and view some of your personal details!

Bl… F.. Grrr - well, that isn't very secure AT ALL, eh? All from a few characters in the URL and no login required.

The majority of my details were fake, but they can stuff that for a joke - I've unsubscribed now.

So I'll leave the link in the OP, but instead of John it now says "dear friend" like a nigerian scammer LOL

      • It looks like the newsletter had a few variables to personalise the page, which is generally ok.
The big not OK was that I could click unsubscribe (still OK, as long as they sent you back an e-mail to confirm unsubscription), but then further view more details without requesting your password!

I saw that original OzBargain post and it just screamed dodgy. Got to be careful with the freebie hunting :)

        • Thanks so much for telling me about that unsubscribe link. That is definitely dodgy stuff.

None of the "offers" they sent to me were any good anyway, so it's no great loss to unsubscribe. If they spam me, I'll block the addie at the server level.

Yeah - that is precisely the reason I use the multiple "fake" email addies.
