$100 off RRP but this seems to be their normal price?

    • most places are asking $549, but yeah, only the bargains are being mentioned on ozbargains. likewise when the powered up 4x4 crawler was released, some vendors were discounting them right off the bat! good timesm

I'm just wondering if it'll discount to $360 on sale, that'd be great

  • Are these any fun? I haven't done anything robotics related before, loved lego growing up… I wanna get into robotics as a hobby not sure if I should get these? Thanks OP too.

      there's two answers for this:
      * for kids: it's mega fun - the boost and mindstorms sets have extensive interactive app experiences. this mindstorms comes with a colourful drag and drop programming UI very reminiscent of the very popular 'scratch' language by MIT targeted at kids.

      • for adult fans of lego and robotics - if you're keen on some great functionality, this comes with 4 motors that have precise angle feedback, and you have the option of extending the experience with cool things like python programming and bluetooth game controllers like dualshocks. there's structured and interactive robotic activities straight outta the box. I'm mad keen for this stuff and will be posting my results to the FB group OZLUG. importantly, the battery is MUCH lighter and smaller, meaning your robots will be more compact and agile, and you get a rechargable battery at that! (rechargeable lego batteries always cost three figures minimum, so that's a huge plus right there)

      Thanks for your appreciation, mate!

Awesome. Appreciate your response. Is a cop for me. Thanks again OP. Have a lovely day

    • There is a lot of hate on this new Mindstorm. Many said it is a downgrade from the old one. If you have not brought this, worth checking out some of the youtube video, maybe getting the EV3 is better value for money.

      • Okay will do. Cheers

Kmart normally have new release Lego at best price but with 31313 being around for 7 yrs I'd say wait for a double or triple stacker if you don't have ants in your pants and wiill save $50 - $100 more .

Interesting to see the EV3 comparisons.. Outside of being smaller, lighter and more modern, there's quite a bit of downgrades like the CPU/memory and no more Linux powering the hub.

Wonder if there will be a higher end EV3 replacement?

    • This is what we are trying to determine. We have been looking to buy ev3 for a while now, and were excited about 51515 now that it's out, but a closer look reveals that it is likely not an upgrade. Perhaps even dumbed down? Was so promising, urgh!

    • Shadows of Wonderland was a good event my friend, it was a good event indeed. Otherwise, damn that's cool! Didn't know you could connect the controller to it, how are you finding the set anyways?

    • Here's a video of the mindstorms 51515 RC vehicle / PS4 controller build in action!
