Best Soundbar under $600

Hi all,

Looking for a soundbar under $600

What is best bang for buck? Ideally something that was over $600 and now discounted below :)

Sonos Beam $595 RRP, but can be had for $545 at Videopro. Then price match at JB and use discount gift cards to get it for $517.75 if my maths is correct.

Why the Beam? Has great sound for everything from basic TV watching to music and movies. Has a decent amount of bass for its size as well.

Companion app is well done. Easy to stream music to it.

Can expand it to a full 5.1 system later if you wish by adding wireless rears and a sub, though it does add up to an expensive system. Can also be used in a multi-room audio system.

    • Great call. I’ve not seen this model before but the reviews are great.

I was thinking of the compact Bose 500, but this appears to be better

    • +1 for the Sonos Beam.

Might not be the best 'bang for buck' but it's a very polished product. Sound and bass is decent if you aren't an audiophile. If you have an iPhone you can tune the Beam for your room. Alexa integration is handy. Sonos' own music streaming service is actually my favourite for just playing background music.

You might get something for $300 that sounds as good but the Beam shines as a package. Highly recommended.

      • I've been wondering this question myself, if you were looking to keep the set up to under $1,000 total, would you still recommend the beam?
My hesitation is that the sub is an additional 850 or so…

Or is stretching to the beam + sub (or even the arc standalone?) The way to go?

        • My concern about the beam is that it’s going into a space that is quite large (open living, kitchen and dining), so it may not be powerful enough and I may be forced to go the ARC

    • I think you mean Sonos Beam.

I have a large open plan area, I wonder if it will get lost in this space

      • I am also considering the audio options for a large open plan area. I have had the Yamaha YAS-105 for five years. It's fine but I believe it's time to upgrade to a better system, including speakers next to the couch for a better experience when watching TV. I only want external subwoofers if they don't stay on the way and don't interfere with the design :P

Still not sure if I want to integrate TV speakers with the living speakers. I have a JBL Link 300 which has been my main audio in the living (for music/party), but it might not be enough for the new place with a larger living area.

  • How do you guys recommend LG SN8YG which is available for $704 as part of Appliance Online Birthday sale.

  • What did you end up with?
I've kind of decided on the Samsung HW-Q70T. It seems like a decent mid-level soundbar that has a HDMI input and output, as I want to connect the Chromecast with Google TV as source -> soundbar -> TV with arc. Good having Chromecast and tv remotes both fully functional.

I'm finding soundbars in general a bit uninspiring for the price, after being used to my yamaha monitors (with a DAC) but keen on better connectivitiy/remove volume control for general tv and movies.

I can still use the monitors with optical out from tv, just a hassle changing sources and no vol control (not an issue for streaming music to chromecast audio etc, as the app/pc controls it).

Actually I already purchased the Yamaha yas-109 which is a nice improvement on stock tv speakers, minimal all in one, and has a HDMI input but finding the sound quality lacking dynamics and clarity (particularly treble), but also got it fairly cheap.

  • Got the Q70T, pretty good for the price I got, wouldn't pay RRP

Thought I'd ask here again - I am looking at Samsungs rears from what i gather the 9000s wouldn't be worth much more than the 8500s? The main difference is another 1/2" driver size, not sure what else.

Hard to even know if any titles are being decoded or broadcast in whichever format (from chromecast with google Tv -> Samsung Q70t)

    Thanks

    • How much HW-Q70?

      • +1

Got for $560 JB hi-fi commercial price, noticed it is on sale for slightly more ($579)

  • My list is one of these:
    Yamaha yas-209
    Sony HT-X8500
    Samsung HW-Q90R

Anything better than these in this price range?

    • So many different Samsung models.. Q900T, Q950T.. Q90R

Ended up with Q70T and the small satellite rears SWA 8500S. No doubt The Q90R is a bit better but probably hard to justify the extra, none of these are as good as proper surround sound AV systems etc. It's good enough for simplicity and not worth spending anymore personally as I have proper monitors for music ($560 for the soundbar, $149 rears and found some stands From selby for $50 delivered - had a $5 eBay voucher. So it's decent for $760 all up).

The sound isnt super immersive but good for a small to medium sized apartment

  • I'm in the same boat.. looking for a soundbar and sub.. Considering

Yamaha yas209 $445 Harvey norman special save $100
    JBL 5.1 MK2 $493 GG commercial price
Or klipsch cinema 600 $765 .. 330 off on sale

    Or any other recommendations..
