Selling Velocity Points - How Do You Do It?

This is probably a dumb question or it’s already been answered but I could find it in search whilst on my mobile device.

How exactly do you sell them? Like I didn’t know you could transfer them to someone who wasn’t a family member.

I’ve got about 220,000 I want to move.

Cheers

  • Hardest part would be finding a buyer at the moment.
Also 1.17c/p direct from virgin with the 100% bonus

Buyer carries most of the risk on transfers not in accordance with the t&c
Other options include handing over your whole account to the buyer, or making redemptions on their behalf.

  • Yeah to be honest I’m only going to transfer them to gift cards, I used to use them for business reward seats. Though seeing the photo of the two minute noodles on the news yesterday has completely turned me off ever going back to them. I’m golf/platinum usually with both Qantas/Virgin from work trips and I was originally committed to virgin due to their value, but I guess it seems Qantas will always be the long term winner.

If I transfer the 220,000 to gift cards, I’d be getting about $1000 from Westfield and maybe a little more from other retailers. I’d be happy selling them at a rate that works for both me and the buyer beneficially, perhaps if virgin is chasing 1.17c per point, that’s about $2500. So down the middle would be $1750 or 0.8c per point.

Highly recommend spending points on gift cards - this is the best value.

I bought JB-Hifi gift cards using velocity points.
I had 150k points and got almost $800.
    Cards arrived in a week.

and now waiting for black Friday to get a new phone from JB

    • that was my plan originally, turns out selling them was super simple. I managed to get a lot better value that way than gift cards, and cash right into the account.

      enjoy the cards!
