Security Camera Suggestions - Synology Compatible

Looking to add a camera setup to my Synology NAS. I'm looking at outdoor cameras (dome or bullet), wired with at least a 20m IR reach. I've been looking at Samsung / Wisenet and Ubiquity but not sure of what direction to take.

Ubiquiti if you want quality video and the ability to move on to Unifi Protect in the future. Samsung for durability and reliability. I personally would go with Ubiquiti.
Edit Gen 1 is not compatible with Protect. There was a Docker image for protect but that has been discontinued I think.

Ubiquity won't work with Synology. You want a camera with ONVIF protocol. Reolink POE cameras are a great option.

Not sure what OP's budget is.

For myself I'm also looking, anything like the Yi Home cameras from a price/quality point of view? I'd also like some that are simple and cheap, dose not have to be the best in quality and features like POE.

    • Yes, sorry, should have added more info up front. Looking up to $500 per camera. Looking at 3 external and 2 internal cameras. Aware I'll need to buy additional synology camera licenses + have POE switches ready to go.

I have a couple of POE Hikvision cameras which work well with Synology NAS (Surveillance Station)
You would need to buy a POE switch or POE injectors (both relatively cheap to buy) You should be able to pick up a couple of decent Hikvision cameras and a 4 port POE switch for $400-$450. You can go cheaper if you buy the chinese versions from ebay or aliexpress but you might not be able to update the firmware (not that i've had to update the firmware) or warranty maybe an issue in future. I personally pay the extra for piece of mind and buy from securitywholesalers.com.au as there stock is genuine aussie stock with 3 years warranty. You can also look at Duhua cameras which my friend has and rates. Very similar to hikvision about 90% as good but 15%-20% cheaper. Securitywholesalers also sell Duhua as well as fleabay or Alixpress etc.

Once you found the brand you want to buy you will have to choose a lens, what features you want but that's a conversation for another time.
