Moving Interstate from VIC to NSW

In the OZB spirit, I have been trying to get the most cost-effective method of relocating from VIC to NSW for no reason other than because I found a job in NSW :)

I have compared a few prices and container sizes and wonder if anyone in the OZB community has used these services or if there are other services you would recommend. I am pretty flexible with the volume of shipping.

Some comparisons to-date:
1) PODS - 26m3 - $2166
2) Budget Self Pack Containers - 38m3 - $2840
3) Australian Container Removals - 38m3 - $2764
4) You Pack Removals - 38m3 - $3211

Currently strongly favouring the PODS due to cost and I really don't think I need more than 26m3.

Thoughts or recommendations? :)

TIA

congrats on the job! does the cost include loading and unloading? also insurance?

Thanks. I believe all of them come with insurances (not sure the actual value) but this will be self-packing. I'm just hiring the container :)

In the truest OzBargain spirit, you could always wait for the borders to reopen and for a campervan relocation route between VIC and NSW to open up, for a caravan of circa 26 cubic metres or thereabouts.

Despite the above, I have no additional serious or useful information, commentary or recommendations.

    • Always good to have some fun :D

Hire a truck one way .

    • Wife refuses to let me drive a truck… it was a consideration until it was quickly shut down

What about just normal furniture removals… insured etc. you point to stuff and go make all that be in Sydney in my new place

No idea why anyone would move TO Sydney job or not LOL… best thing I ever did was leave the place.

OP is moving to NSW. NSW is bigger than Sydney

      • I know its amazing that most people move to Sydney in NSW for some reason based on numbers .

Taxibox is another option. They have smaller containers but you can save money if you don't need that much space.

  • Congratulations!

All of Victoria…… Can we come too?

    • You see the numbers today NSW 10 Vic 2 . I have a bad feeling all the Vic sacrifice for the country could be done in vain with NSW no mandated mask policy creating the next outbreak . Dan can't see it .

absolutely I concur, we got shat on by every state for our testing. like huge..

        • It had nothing to do with testing. 15k of tests a day was done and there was ever only less than <1k positive cases. It had to do with tracking & tracing.

When you have a certain number of cases it is impossible to track and trace, just look at Europe.

Dan can't tell NSW what to do. The problem is with how our state and federal government responsibility is divided.

      • You mean Sydney

  • Open the Vic border alreadyy to SA, Vic is going good with low numbers now and I've got family in Victoria..

SAPOL says I can go to Victoria but can't come back….

    • You are fortunate that SAPOL would give you an opinion. I tried ringing the local VICPOL and all I got was go to the Dept of Human something or other (DHHS) web site. We all know now how well that all worked out. They all are doing a Sgt Shultz. It's time to open all borders.

I used a website unionmovers.com.au from WA to VIC a few years ago.

Turns out they put out the quote to various removalists and ended up being Fragile Removals - https://www.fragileremovals.com.au/ I can't remember how much it was, I think ~$3500 for 36m3.

I then used Freagile Removals again for a move within Vic as I was happy with them. Not sure about COVID, but normally they'll come have a look and give you an estimate of how much space you'll need.

I'd highly recommend using a removalist even though I packed most of the stuff in boxes myself, they'll pack stuff not in boxes for the trip much better than you would. Some also have the option to have it in storage if you don't have somewhere to put it straight away.

Also, if you do end up using a removalist but self packing, make an itemised list for each box YOU PACKED, sounds like a pain, but insurance (either theirs, or yours) won't cover you if you don't have it.

    • This is also a consideration. I just had a chat with Grace Removalists today and I'll see what the quote comes back as being. Circa $3500 inc of removalists is a fair deal. I'll get in touch with them! Thanks :)

  • moved from vic to qld. used a mover who quoted $3000 for a full container to brisbane and packed everything. he was in mornington but shd do the job for much less as based on distance. had to pay extra $2000 for the final leg.
he also stores containers at his railyard site.

did a good honest job. gave cheap used boxes as well at cost.

  • could not edit
he can give quotes on smaller loads too.
worked out best in the end.
he can store stuff at his frankston office so you can move out and deliver later.
