Buying from Dell Vs Other Retailer

I'm getting a new Dell monitor and I was wondering if there is any benefit in getting it directly from Dell vs getting one from a retailer like mwave or umart.

You'd think you'd be better off buying direct from Dell if it is the same price. Dell might ship faster?

I was able to negotiate expedited shipping along with price matching so Dell might ship faster in this instance

With my dell order about a year ago I was told everything was in-stock and ready to ship, but it ended up taking 2 weeks to dispatch for some reason. Was fine after that hiccup and they used startrack for the delivery.

    • I'm still waiting on mine that I ordered.
8 weeks on tracking says "in production"

Can't conclude I'd ever buy from Dell again.

Never had any issues buying from Dell and their back-up service has been good too.

I had asked Dell to price match Mwave and they did - however, they added $30 shipping onto it with about the same delivery time frame (4-5 business days). I asked them about same day delivery and they said it would be a further $25 or something. I told them I would think about it and they sent a quote anyway, advising me to get in contact if I'd like to purchase.

Mwave isn't too far away so I ended up ordering from them about an hour later (even though it said 4-6 business days).

An hour after that, Dell called me back and said "Hey, we'll do that matched price with free delivery ETA of 3 days." But it was too late anyway…. Mwave ended up getting it available for pickup in 2 days from the order date, so was quick still (I imagine their supplier was Dell to boot)

Mwave said warranty and issues can go to Dell directly anyway (and would probably be quicker)

TLDR; They may come back with a free shipping offer if they don't let you have it in the first place. I hear people talk about Dell rewards or coupons, so it might be worthwhile if you're thinking of a few purchases (or willing to sell through classifieds)

    • I'm pretty sure delivery is baked into the quote I received, but now I'll have to write him back and make sure it is.

Might go with Dell for the rewards, I didn't think of that

Should be in the quote itself - for monitors, the line was this:

        "Monitor Freight Charges 30FP (Australia)"

        • it wasn't listed but the sales guy confirmed it was included so I accepted the quote.

Have seen few people posting Dell Advantage Coupons for sale … have no idea about it but i assume you can get discount on dell site via them … have a look.

  • I find the fact you can return to dell within 30 days at no charge a good bonus. They are also normally pretty quick at getting gear to me (2-5 days), but of recent it's been slow (like more than a week wait before it even leaves the factory. In saying this I am still happy, and there tech support and warranty is still the best I have ever experienced.

    • that's really good. Is it a no-questions-asked type of return?

      • Has been for me. I normally just say that it didn't meet my expectations.

        • Good to know, thanks
