IT Field Support Enginner

Hi Guys,

I am a contractor for an IT company doing Field Support Engineer and now i have an opportunity to apply for a permanent role which is the same title as what i am doing now. I will be going to a zoom interview next week with my current manager, HR manager and another Service Delivery Manager in Sydney. Any tips/advice for the interview? i have not done any interview for 5-6 years now so i am getting really nervous.

  • Stay calm, be honest, and prepare.

    • thank you :)

  • Is it with the same company?

    • kinda, our contract with the IT company is from the third party agency and the only way to go for permanent role is applying directly through the company's website.

  • First up congrats on getting the opportunity to go permanent. I was in that same vote once. You know the job and what needs to be done. Whatever they ask just base it on what you have been doing the past few years like procedures, time management and support. Goodluck

  • weird that you need to interview

yes we do because most of the guys from our team is fighting to get the permanent role and most of them has been working in the field longer than me.

I am a Senior Engineer in IT handling intreviews for Support engineers myself. Since your interview is with managers and HR it is less likely that they focus on pure technical questions so try to focus on your experience and what you have done for the company. Bring up projects you worked on, clients that were happy with your support. Explain your approach for when there is a big issue such as an unhappy client and examples of times you handled such issues well. No need to say that personally for me the attitude and personality of candidates is almost the most important factor specially since you are working with outside companies.

    • Thank you:) i will take a note of that. Really appreciate for your help. But can i ask you for another advice if you dont mind: The zoom interview is happening around 10am in the morning which is during my working hours which i normally travel to client site, should i take the interview on my phone in the car? or i just go home and sitting in front of the computer and tell them i will back to work after the interview?

Defenitely apply for leave for that time and be at home. you don't want to be distracted. It also shows you took it seriously and want to be professional. But since it is the same company as I mentioned make sure to apply for leave

        • thank you for your advice

        • Yeah.. do not call in sick ;)

          • @elgrande: lol, no i wont. i know some other guys had interview at 3.30pm and next day is 9am as well but i think i am the first one of the list.

        • do you think if they salary each candidate is asking for the position can impact on the interview's result?

          • @at91: it defenitly will. was there a range mentioned in the job description ?

            • @Lordsina: there is no range mentioned in the job description :(

    • i have sent you dm:)
