I don't get it. Don't you just activate your new sim as normal and provide the phone number you want to port?

When switching providers, the provider that you intend to switch to will take your existing phone number and your personal details and transfer the number from your existing provider. There is little for you the user to do other than provide the correct details and payment methods to your new provider. This typically takes them less than 48 hours to complete and is usually done in an hour after you have submitted your application to your new provider. Remember to turn your phone off and on again after you have your new sim in your phone and confirmation that your transfer of providers was successful from your new provider.

    • this is correct. To avoid issues with the porting, you need to ensure that your current provider has the correct details (eg; DOB, account number, properly spelled name). When they have incorrect information, this is when delays and problems occur. Also, with Telstra, there's porting hours "

We can only transfer your mobile number during these operating hours:

      Monday-Friday: 8am – 8pm (AEST/AEDT)
      Saturday, Easter Monday and Queen’s Birthday: 10am – 6pm (AEST/AEDT)

For all other times, you can submit your request and the transfer will start the next business day.

      • So the computers turn off after those times?
