What's Your Pick for Advent Calendars This Year?

We got the gin one last year ($$$ gift), a beauty one ($$$$ also a gift) and 12 days of Cheesemas (Safeway <$20).

This year we got the elusive Bonne Maman jam one ($40, if you're after one, run don't walk). It's what we call the Daniel Wellington of advent calendars (everyone who posts about it was gifted it). I'd love the funko Harry Potter one but suspect it'll end up being clutter. After Christmas we might get the L'Occitane one.

Are you a fan of Advent Calendars? Which one do you normally get?

Heard Aldi has a wine, did anyone try that?

  • I used to get the L'Occitane one, but it's gone up from $75 to $99 in recent years with less hand creams; no thanks.

I've gotten the Harry Potter LEGO Advent Calendar and hoping that Godiva do an advent calendar as well

  • +5

I'll probably get negged for daring to be different, but we make our own. A bunch of different sized burlap drawstring bags with numbered tags hanging off them, all stacked in a basket. It's fun opening them, but more fun shopping for stuff to fill them with. And can be reused every year. :)

I did get hubby the ASOS grooming one a couple of years ago, but it was a massive waste of money - most of the items were for beards, which hubs hasn't got.

  • im STRONGLY considering the starwars lego one this year.

  • We live in the country and clearly have missed when advent calendars came in for adults.

We’ve done the Lego ones for the kids. They loved it.
For the kids (who are probably getting too old now) we also have a pile of Christmas stories individually wrapped in a basket. Each day in December one of the kids pick a story, unwrap it and we read together as a family (usually squeezing into mum/dads bed). We keep the same stories for next year and just re-wrap them. This way they become familiar with the stories. We also have a special one that is only allowed to be opened on Christmas Eve.

Kids love it and it’s a nice family moment.

Don’t get me started with the elf on the shelf though! Worst Christmas tradition ever! Fun for the first year or two but a chore thereafter!

We don't have kids, so for us it's a way of bringing more fun into the lead up to Christmas. We've done one for about 5 years now, although over the years it's gone from just small gifts to more pricey things like concert tickets. Guess I won't be getting any of those this year!

  • Anthon Berg and Royal des Lys make advent calendars of liqueur chocolates. But they're a bit hard to find so I don't buy either of them, I just fill the pockets of a cloth advent calendar with Anthon Berg liqueur chocolates from BigW.

  • Haven't tried the Aldi wine one, but I think Dan Murphy's has a few for different types of alcohol (gin, beer, etc.)

  • Couldn't find a thread for 2022. No cheese this year. That french jam one has shot up to $60!! French film festival tix were the same too, both things were on our list, and we wondered why it took us so long, till we looked at the price lol.

Wondering if costco does advent calenders?
