Latarjet Procedure - Shoulder Stabilisation Surgery - Advice / Experiences?

Hi everyone,

I've recently been put onto a waiting list (approx. 12 months) for a Latarjet procedure to stabilise my shoulder, which has been continually dislocating since an initial dislocation while goalkeeping early last year.

I was wondering if anyone has had this procedure before and what the expected layoff is? How much time should I expect to require off work (office job and 90% of the work is at a desk on a computer) and how long before I can perform an action such as driving my car?

The end goal is to get back to playing football and preferably goalkeeping without having to worry about my shoulder sliding out of it's socket.

If you've had the surgery, I'd love to hear your thoughts as to the above and your overall experience with the surgery, rehab and day-to-day life post recovery.

Thanks in advance.

If it was done while playing for a club game and there was an incident filed then ask the club about the insurance that you paid in your dues as this is to cover accidents like this. This way you should be able to get it done quicker.

    • Unfortunately it was during pre-season training and I wasn't a registered player at that point. Therefore no insurance. Pure bad luck.
