ANZ Travel Cards - Cancel Them?

Hi,

I have two ANZ cards that I’m thinking of cancelling. With the reduced need for international travel in the medium term, and the annual fees involved, it just seems more worthwhile to get them cancelled?

  1. Rewards Travel Adventure ($225 annual fee - reduced to $120)
  2. FF Black VISA ($425)

Any idea what Card should I get next? I use these cards mainly for the international transaction fee waiver.

Thanks!

Debit cards with international transaction fee waived, such as 86400.

If you close a credit card, then open a new one straight after, becareful on its impact on your credit score. DYOR. Not advice here.

28 degrees does no international transaction fee and is free (double check the OzB credit card wiki). I keep mine for travel and buying stuff overseas

  • I cancelled mine because who wants to pay $120 a year for nothing lol.

Got the Virgin Flyer card instead which gives you a $129 travel voucher each year which completly offsets the annual fee. Also has the usual kind of perks that people seem to be happy to pay money for (why they do I have no idea) such as points earn (not the best but ok), guaranteed price match, fraud shield, transit accident insurance, personal concierge.

After a bit of research it was the card that best suited my needs. Downsides are shit house, and I do mean shit house, app that doesn't even have biometric access and no Apple Pay on the card. It's my backup so it's not a huge deal, but still very archaic. Feels like I'm back in 2012 when I have to type the password into the app to view my balance.

There's also the Virgin High Flyer card which gives more perks (such as lounge passes) but the annual fee is more than twice the price, so not worth it IMO. It is a gamble getting a FF card in these COVID times but one I am willing to take.

Yep, cancelled mine last week as the annual fee is indefensible. I’m going to use my ING debit card to avoid international transaction fees until I can find something better.

  • Probably should keep anz travel visa as it's no longer a product you can get from anz website anymore.
The ability to earn points when spend online and overseas is quite good and we don't have many options at the moment. I also have Coles premium MasterCard which is also being nerfed by Citibank. I used to get heaps of points but they are take away this from Nov.

  • closed a westpac credit card this morning, in the app, easy.
$15k credit limit I wasn't using, didn't need it. gone.
