Where to buy XXL commercial size coffee filter papers? (6 litre/1.5 gallon) 13" bucket style (For straining greek yoghurt)

Hi all,

I've been hunting for XXL size coffee filter papers for a long time.
I've been using smaller filters to strain my greek yoghurt, which is so much easier and less messy than cheesecloth, and gets a better result than my Eurocusine yoghurt strainer. Unfortunately, I make more yoghurt than the filters can hold, so would like a bigger one.

Here's a link to what they look like:

https://www.amazon.com.au/Bunn-20138-1000-Gallon-Coffee-Filt…

Unfortunately, there are none available on Amazon.com.au, and it seems all the ebay ones are smaller - around 24cm as opposed to 33cm in diameter.

I've looked at all the barista supply websites in Australia I can find, as well as calling up numerous restaurant supply stores in Melbourne.
No luck so far, so I've come to the brainstrust of Ozbargain, in the hope that someone may actually also buy them and know where to get them :)

I know it's a long shot, but would be grateful for any tips as I've hit a dead end.

Thank you!

If your making cannabutter then there's better things to use than giant coffee filters.

  • Sorry, what is cannabutter - never mind, just googled it. Absolutely not.

I'm actually using it to strain greek yoghurt - which I've added to the description.

Greek yogurt doesn't have as high fat content as butter, so it won't absorb much of the THC. But it's worth a shot.

  • making labneh

    • Close, greek yoghurt and sometimes quark :)

  • Isnt it just this on eBay

Same brand etc from the amazon link.
Box is open and I’m not sure on what the price should be

    • Or from amazon us

      • Thanks, good find :) The Amazon one is killed by the USD $56 shipping fee. The ebay one is a little less, but still has over $50 in additional fees, which makes it sadly unviable. I did look at Amazon.com/ebay international too in my searching, but it was because of the shipping fees that I started ringing around locally and was hoping to find something less extravagantly priced!!

I found this website and looks like they are from the UK. But they have bigger sized filters too.
Im not too sure if its cheaper than the amazon one you found but you can check them out? shipping seems to be around 15 pounds.

    https://www.redber.co.uk/products/generic-5-6-litre-paper-fi…

    • How is that a good deal? It’s over $54 including delivery.

      • because its in stock unlike the amazon one. the amazon one is also $56 USD for shipping alone…

        • This is OzBargain not OzRRP.

          • @WoodYouLikeSomeCash: This is a forum. Not the deals page. Also it is cheaper than the original link.

@jennyy: Thanks Jennyy and good point, yes - they were in stock there and I'm grateful for the link. I agree, it is pretty expensive once you add shipping, but it's still worth a look and I'm adding it to my bookmarks to refer to :)

Just thinking outside the box here. Many years ago I bought a heavy wire frame cooking oil strainer that took paper filters (conical, not fluted/ribbed and flat based like the coffee ones, so less effective surface area). I got them from Hotel Agencies in Nicholson St Fitzroy. Not sure if they still have them or something similar. The filter papers are the same type of paper and thickness as coffee filters, and they were around 30cm in diameter, and probably 5-6 litres. Similar to https://www.wholesalecateringsupplies.com.au/chef-inox-filte… and https://www.wholesalecateringsupplies.com.au/filter-paper-la… I've used them for all sorts of filtration over the years, from oil to water, and various wet foods, but I've never used it for yoghurt. Perhaps you could also consider a large colander and line the inside with filter paper or cheesecloth, the colander would stop the filters from moving around too much, and hopefully less messy for you.

    • Actually, that is a very good idea - thanks for the suggestion! I own a large chinois strainer, which I could set up in the wire frame with those filters.
I'll have a look and see if Hotel Agencies still has some, as Fitzroy is not far at all from me. Otherwise, those links are great and might just be the solution.
Cheers and thanks for your thinking outside of the box, exactly what I came here for :)

  • Have you tried https://www.foxcoffee.com.au/collections/filters/products/ha…

Perhaps somebody could help with translation re sizes? They say they make 3 sizes but not what they are, although probably;y marked on the packaging.

    • Thanks Maisie - I had a look, but judging by the pictures on the packaging I think they are quite small - 2 or 3 cups. I actually have been using coffee filters from Daiso, and they look at lot like these, so I think they are for similar small coffee setups :)

  • Can't help with filters but have you tried using just basic chux wipes? I've worked in a few kitchens that do that. Less mess than cheese cloth and generally strains better too.
