Penderyn Myth Single Malt Welsh Whisky 700ml $74 @ Dan Murphy (Members)

100

I love Penderyn, Wales has a long tradition of Whisky distilling and was home to one of the founding fathers of American bourbon (Evan Williams) and they are the first distiller in Wales in over 100 years. My favourite is Madeira but Myth is an excellent whisky and easily one of their most popular and successful, I've included the awards it has won below for anyone interested. All info below is taken from the Penderyn website.

Myth is a single malt whisky finished in a range of specially selected ex-bourbon and rejuvenated oak casks., bottled at 41% abv. (43% in the USA). This whisky has a Kosher certificate.

TASTING NOTES

Nose: Fresh and lively, Myth has mixed citrus fruits mingling with apple, pear drops and the merest hint of tropical fruits.
Palate: Sweetness dominates then moves over to allow some refreshing bitterness to emerge while the mixed fruits continue to dominate the flavour.
Finish: Gradually all the flavours ebb away to leave memories of a lively and light style of whisky that is easy to drink.

Haha, I am from the next village along from Penderyn and never thought that I would see that whisky here in Australia, nevermind on Ozbargain!

Even though I've been through the distillery on a few tours I am not a whisky fan…but by all accounts this is highly regarded.

    Iechyd da!

    • Are you living in Australia?

      • Yep, living in Brisbane.

  • I’ve had this one and I highly recommend it. I wanted to see what Wales had to offer and I was not disappointed. Fruity and not too sweet, fairly light-bodied, would be a suitable one for beginners or someone wanting to branch out to expand their palate. Not smoky at all so if you’re an Islay fan you’ll need to look at other brands.

  • Non chill filtered - nice!
