Plan Recommendation for Minimal Data Usage

Looking for budget, long term sim-only plan recommendations for my dad.

He uses next to no data (always on WiFi), so he only needs local calls.

I've see the long running Kogan 90 days for $14.90, but was hoping for something which would last 6 or 12 months, to set and forget.

He's currently on a Belong starter pack which is about to expire.

Dodo $5 a month call plan.

Belong, $40 pack for $20, combine with referral for 2 months free, double data when activating on certain days so should nab you 80gb of data, then move to $10 a mont plan and let it roll over. $120 for the year

He would be better of going with dodo ($60 a year) not belong ($120 a year).

    Amaysim As You GO?

$10 Credit for 365 days, the catch is that just like the old days you pay 15/c a minute and 15c per SMS. but for someone who's phone is always on WiFI you probably won't even touch at all. If you need to call out just use VoWiFi calling and whatsapp. (optus MVNO's now support VoWIFI as of july).

It doesn't cost you any money to receive calls, so for people who just wants to be available for phone calls but do not call out, and only use whatsapp /wechat for voice communications, a PayG plan is the probably the best.

Aldi is even cheaper at 12/c per minute and 12 cents per SMS. However it doesn't have VoWifi

  • the aldi 365 plan is good or minimal use but you must renew it or you lose the credit after 1 year. you can add a data pack if you wish. I pair my isp tangerine without calls with a $100 aldi pack with 15gb data - special buy, so no more offer - but I saw others as well which you can consider eg coles etc, on ozbargain. instead o this.
