Anyone Had to Claim with Woolies or Bingle Insurance?

Hey guys,

Time to renew my 3rd party insurance for my clunker. I've usually just gone with Bingle as they're the cheapest, but they're online only, and have some pretty bad reviews. Thinking I might switch it Woolies insurance, or QBE- which is only $10 or $20 more, and at least have call centres if I were to need them in an emergency.

Has anyone had to claim with Woolies or Bingle before? Most insurers have bad online reviews, but Woolies appear to be slightly better. And at least they have a public image to uphold

Thoughts?

Cheers

    no hassle at all.

Have claimed (at fault 😞) on both. No issues.

    • Hi John,

So how do you claim with Bingle? Submit it online then they call you? :)

Do you have any preference between the two?

      • Online. Bingle was years ago, can't remember if they called me after or if it was all email, but I assume so.

Also claimed with Woolies online. They then call also.

        No preference, whichever is cheaper.

Are you sure you were at fault? I don’t remember the ozbargain forum post that was your trial…

  • Claimed on bingle about 8 years ago, no hassles

I've claimed with Bingle twice two years ago and it all went well. Everything is done online, but once you have completed all the details they give you a phone number to call if you need to. I didn't need to call. The online process set me up with a repairer and I took my car to them. They even gave me an uber to get home from the repairer.

The main problem is that you have to pay the excess upfront and they refund you later if you are not at fault. In my case, my car was hit while parked and the person didn't leave their details. So I just had to pay the excess, which is normal procedure in such an incident with every insurance company as far as I'm aware.

Been with Woolies car insurance for about 5 years, mainly because they are cheaper as they have distance travelled pricing. My car is a 2014 Mercedes C Class, travel about 8,000km PA, inc. windscreen replacement an agreed value of $22,500 cover price was $472 PA. A friend of mine had his Honda Jazz parked in street when some hoon lost control and slammed into it, Jazz was a write off, Woolworths Ins. paid him out if full just a week later.

  • Thanks for the help everyone. I ended up going with Bingle. They were the cheapest third party insurance, followed by Woolies and QBE.

    • How much was your premium

      • Was about $166 for 3rd party only. Excess is $795. Hard to beat.

I could get it slightly cheaper with Woolies if I jacked the excess up to $1500+ but I knew if I did that then I'd probably hit something and regret my desire to save 10 bucks lol

Not bad yeah . I mean it’s like 50c a day :) 1500 excess is high for me. Haha yeah :) all the best

        • Was about $166 for 3rd party only

how did you mange to get that low? for me it is above $350 for third party

@bazingaa: I guess your age and driving record factors in too. I only drive old cars. Maybe fast ones increase the premium too. As does if you want fire and theft cover.

But if you're over 30 with a good driving record anything over about $250 for third party only is too much imo.

Claimed with Bingle two month ago after being rear ended by an uninsured driver. Had to pay excess up front but after investigated by Bingle & deemed to not be my fault I was refunded in full two weeks later no questions asked. Car was in repair shop three hours after submitting claim. Only down side is they do not cover taxis to / from repair shop but other than that they were great.
