  • Worth going for the duo option?

    • If you have the cash .. yes
However, in almost all cases , if your hit in the rear, its the rear driver thats at fault as they must ensure they are driving at a safe distance (at all times) to stop if needed

      • -1

Even if you are hit in the rear, e.g. in carpark, a front camera will usually show plenty.
How fast were you reversing? Did you stop before the impact?

    • +2

      Absolutely!

Not only because you can capture driver behaviour before an accident - a driver swerving in and out of traffic, before cutting you off and causing an accident, for example - but also hit and run rear-enders. They do happen.

Also good for parking where someone reverses out of their spot and into you, while you're off shopping.

If there were any decent 4-way units I'd be seriously considering one.

I run the a129 Duo in my car.

      • +8

        Exactly.
Lucky for the white SUV I was behind them to see this scam attempt…

        https://photos.app.goo.gl/CCph6ZY4wVu1DGuw5

        • unreal mate! Cannot believe some people.

        • what was the aftermath? Looks like the offender was about to take off

      • +1

So the a129 Duo has the ability to record when parked?

        • Yeah it does. You will need to buy a separate hardwire kit though - for parking mode.

  • Definitely, especially if the c u * t hits you from thr back and you can see he was on his phone, you can get the fuzz involved and charge his ass.

  • Anyone just buy two of these things for front and back?

I've got a 12v socket in the front and back.

    • I’ve done it before for the A118C

    • Yep I did that because I bought these before dual channel dashcams were a thing (or maybe just plain unaffordable that I didn't even look at them).
Just means you'll need to set them up to have the same time so you can correlate events, and have two SD cards rather than one larger one (which actually makes it cheaper).
On a side note: these don't have wireless connectivity though - quite often I wish there was wifi or bluetooth so I can just quickly look up an event in the car but instead you need an SD card reader (or android if your phone supports it)

      • +1

I chose 2 of these V119 V2's over the dual one, as it provides better footage and also gives you a fail safe way to have 2 independent recordings.
If one of them fails, you always have a 2nd one recording.

      • +2

you'll need to set them up to have the same time

Actually, these use GPS for setting the clock, which is obscenely accurate.

        • Can you set up GPS for clock but not show speed on the recording?

          • +1

@adn: Yes. GPS stamp in the picture would be optional, but they usually include it in the datastream.

      • That's something I didn't consider - hope often have you wanted to quickly have a look at the footage like that?

      • what kind of SD card is best for this camera ?

    • Yes and worked much better as your recording lapse longer.
Before this dashcams can only take 128gb micro sd and at full res, it lapse after 21 hours.

  • Does anyone think the Polarisation filter is worth it? or something you can buy on eBay for a few cents?

    • You can use the plastic lens from 3D cinema glasses. (They are circular)

Would linear-polarised lenses, such as in sunglasses, do the job?

  • -1

Just tried getting A129 duo. Delivery fees $22 is killing the deal. Huh

Just A129 duo cam is with $11.95 delivery fees. Not bad.

  • -1

what car do you drive ec

    • +2

      Mazda 3

There is no point driving high performance cars in sydney due to speed limit restrictions everywhere and people driving at speeds slower than turtles

        Try driving in Adelaide,

  • How do you guys mount the rear camera on a SUV or hatch ? Youtube videos are not very helpful.

    • +1

It comes with tiny sticky clips. I ran the cable along the top of the window trim on the back windscreen to the hinge and then left a small amount of slack before running it down the inside to the rear power adapter.

      • Thanks but I tried with leaving some slack but it will be too much slack in my case ( mazda cx9) …can i ask what car you installed it on ?

        • +1

I have a Ford Territory, and had the issue of a frequent user with a tendency to slam the glass door closed, so decided to mount it to the roof liner.

I was fortunate in that my roof liner cover needed replacing, so a botched job would be easily covered.

I used a long strip of 50mm wide aluminium between 2 studs that hold the liner to the roof, and then a short piece, painted black, on the lower side. Mounted the camera to that. Worked a treat.

Works a treat, and no vibrations etc. in the video.

  • Thanks. A119 V3 is available for $139 delivered.

    • does that include hard wiring kit? not sure if i should pull the trigger since i've seen it as low as $120 in the past

      • No

        • Any recommendations for hard wiring kit? Does V2 include hard wiring kit?

  • +4

I installed one of these in the back (already had one in the front) and 3 days later we had footage all over every news station thanks to a negligent daycare.

    • Link to the news report?

      • +10

        https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-10-23/toddlers-children-esc…

Front and back cameras are the same but I haven't got a filter on the back one yet and the sun was in a bad position at the time.

Edit: I just realised mine is a V3.

        • Which model did you install, and can you read the number plate, i am looking for 2 cars.

          • @Empiresearth: Both of mine are the Viofo A119 V3. I researched and decided that this was better than the Pro for my situation. Yes, it is very easy to read number plates.

            Example: https://imgur.com/a/R1vhlgh

If you zoom in, the quality is good enough to just make out the numbers on the road sign in the distance.
I didn't realise my settings were set to MPH at the time.

  • +2

Seems like a good price on the Duo. I haven't add one to cart for postage estimate but these numbers are what I paid through another retailer alllllll the way back in Feb last year.

I haven't seen them anywhere near as cheap for quite some time.

For reference, my previous deal was via eBay with 20% off. The hardwire kit was also in the same vicinity ($25).

On the fence about buying a 3rd (for my folks) as I feel like they should have been cheaper by now given the Pro/4k has been out for some time now but it doesn't seem to be so! The shipping pumps it up a bit (+$25) so realistically a little more expensive then my previous purchase.

OP, any idea how long these specials are running?

  • i happen to see on youtube a dude powering his dashcam via the obd2 adapter, seems probably the closest plug and pray solution if you wanted hard wiring, is this common knowledge & works well? Any limitations? thanks..

  • Is V3 worth spending extra?

  • Can someone post the link for the Duo? I want to make sure I am looking at the right one as it says the other camera is an inside camera to record people inside. Also, do i need the hardwiring kit strictly? Is it worth the extra $25? Thanks.

  • I've got a pair of A119S from the previous deals in the past 2-3 years and was hoping to get a hardwire kit for them.

Does anyone know where to get them?

Seems there are two types, one with just two wires (12V and ground) and one with three wires (inc. parking mode).

I don't believe my model can do parking mode..

  • Does this model offer parking mode if plugged into an always on 12v socket?

    • Most cig sockets are on ACC which takes the power away when you take the key out. you would need the hardwiring kit to get the parking mode working.

  • I ordered the V3 as the V2 was out of stock. I noticed my payment went to Zapals Tech… I remember Zapals was a horrible store and eventually closed in AU, is SQ related?

  • Back in stock

  • Hi I’m interested in front dashcam and would like it to be hardwired so that it captures recording when I go for shopping and parked. I was told this will chew up my battery in no time. Is this correct ?
Most often I need evidence of wrong doing in car parks. I got a big scratch in Ikea last week when I was shopping.
Should I get ultratune to install the hardwired install in my car ?

  • Btw the other day in Westfield I saw a car which was flashing a white light indicating it had a camera. That looked supercool it gives others an indication to watch out. Which car camera could that be ?

    • It can be any brand/model.

    • They turn on the IR mode which I think its useless as your windscreen glass reflects back :)

  • I’m really interested in buying the A129 duo. Could you please let me know if the price for it is a bargain ?
And does it drain out the battery ?

    • +1

You need carkit to be attached when your car is off.
If not, it take power from cig socket and if your alternator and battery is good, it wont drain your car battery.

For my car which cig socket still powered when off, I pair it with Baseus usb charger that has battery indicator which cut off at 12.3v or something.

      • Thanks mate. I’m planning to buy the car kit as well will that help ? I’m not sure how it extracts the power if not the battery. If it’s the battery won’t it drain out as the car is parked ?

Should I pull the trigger for A129 duo ? Is it a good bargain as I didn’t check the usual sale on this item.

        • +1

There is a switch on those car kit that cuts off when the voltage is 12.3V or so. If you are planning to leave your car in a garage for extended period of time (2weeks+) , best to unplug the cam.

          • @bnh: Thanks a lot. Do you know which auto mechanic can install this for me as I don’t want to stuff it up ?

            • @justanick: I just google "sydney dashcam" .
The one I know is on top of the google result.

  • Did they increase the price for A129 duo ?
    I think I saw it for $188 but now it's $218 ! damn I missed it

    • Yep. Looks like it.

  • Do you know any good reasonable priced auto mechanic in Sydney or NSW 2205 airport area who can install the A129 on my car ?

    • +1

Yourself, few YouTube clips and you are pro

      • thanks trying my best to DYI but now I am stuck on where can I purchase the Fuse taps (standard, mini or micro)? I assumed the Viofo hardware kit would come with it but it doesn't … do you know where can I buy them and which ones ? Amazon Australia has mini only and don't want to order it from USA with unknown ETA

        • +1

eBay has all type, you need to check which fuse does your car use, check your car's fuse box

          • @SnoozeAndLose: I’ve checked my car fuse box it has all types of fuses plus different amp from 5 to 20…30amp.
Which ones should I buy ?

            • +1

@justanick: You are looking for the size of the fuse to see which fuse tap you need , I have 3A, you can get 3A or 5A, when you buy the fuse tap it should give you the fuse as well.

              • @SnoozeAndLose: Thanks a lot. I’m looking for the size. eBay has more mini with different fuse amps than any other size. Should I get the mini size which has 5A fuse tap ?
I can’t find standard size fuse with 5A or 3A on eBay shipping from Australia as I need it sooner than later.
Please let me know which ones should I order it would really help me if you can provide me with eBay or Amazon link

                • +1

@justanick: get the hardwire kit, it comes with the fuse and fuse taps.

                  https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3-2M-Hard-Wire-Fuse-Box-Car-Reco…

                  • +1

@SnoozeAndLose: Thanks a lot for going out of your way to assist me.
I’m already buying the hardware kit with A129 so that means I’ll just throw away the 1* 3.2M Dash Cam Hardwire Kit which comes in the package and only use the standard fuse adapter, am I right ?
The hardware kits red wire goes to one of the fuse slots and the other yellow one to another. I hope one is standard and another is mini as I only get one of each type fuse adapter.

*could you please give me a link with fuse adapters only as I ordered the hardware kit ?

                    • +1

@justanick: if you already have the kit, you will only need the piggy back fuses.

                      https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p233452…

                      • @SnoozeAndLose: Thanks so much mate. I really really appreciate the link you have provided. Now I know what these fuse adapters are called. I’m ordering the standard size and will be watching some more YouTube videos to do this on my own. A good project during pandemic

                        • +1

@justanick: It is very easy, do once and you will become pro

                          • @SnoozeAndLose: I am waiting for the A129 and can't wait to install this. I also bought the bluetooth device off ebay which was cheaper.
I got few questions appreciate if you can assist in answering them:

                            1) When I press the bluetooth button what happens to the video footage - does it save only the few seconds of that instance to another location of the SD card ? How long/length of the footage ?
                            2) Regarding the parking mode: I keep my car under the basement which shared cars. How long can the device keep recording in parking mode, auto detection enabled, before my car's battery drops below 12.2 or 12.3V ?
                            3) I checked my battery its at 14.2V when I start the engine. Once it drops the battery charge to let's say 12.2V if I drive my car for 30mins will it recharge the battery again ?
                            4) What settings should I use for parking mode for writing on the SD card when in parking mode? I have 128GB SD card SANDISK class 10 bought it from the above shopping square.

                            • @justanick: 1) When I press the bluetooth button what happens to the video footage - does it save only the few seconds of that instance to another location of the SD card ? How long/length of the footage ?

Done know as i don't own the exact model.

                              2) Regarding the parking mode: I keep my car under the basement which shared cars. How long can the device keep recording in parking mode, auto detection enabled, before my car's battery drops below 12.2 or 12.3V ?

depends on how much you drive before you go for long parking again. I drive 1 hour a day and can last for the entire weekend if don't drive, I don't know how much longer it can last.

                              3) I checked my battery its at 14.2V when I start the engine. Once it drops the battery charge to let's say 12.2V if I drive my car for 30mins will it recharge the battery again?

it will but doubted 30 mins is enough to go back to 14.2V

                              4) What settings should I use for parking mode for writing on the SD card when in parking mode? I have 128GB SD card SANDISK class 10 bought it from the above shopping square.

the device has no other memory so , no matter it is park mode or continuous mode, it all go to the SD card.

                              • @SnoozeAndLose: Thanks could you give me the settings which I should use for parking mode ? The optimal settings which would conserve my car’s battery during parking mode ?
For 128GB what would be the recording time I’ll get once I turn off the wifi settings which would have 16bit/rate ?
Google shows 7hrs of recording time before it goes into a loop again

                                • +1

@justanick: once you set park mode, it should activate when it senses motion so it can last very long.

7 hours is more than enough for a week by saying your battery last that long
