  • This is so sad

    • Why not just pay it online?

      • +1

I do, but many customers still pay in-store.

        • I can just imagine them in their beds, sobbing themselves to sleep over the idea of having to pull out their phone and just do it themselves. You're right it is sad to think about.

          • @AustriaBargain: Amex points without fees

            • @Trance N Dance: Why should anyone care about those people losing their fee free amex points. 7/11 or Transit NSW I mean, or even people who don't use Amex, why should 7/11 keep offering this just for Amex card users looking for points without paying fees.

              • @AustriaBargain: Well you're right, Transit NSW shouldn't give a toss because they've got nothing to do with it.
7/11 might care because in a sense it's marketing. Someone comes in to pay their bill/top up and either they purchase something in store or fill up their car because it's convenient. There's also commission based incentives that linkt or translink may pay to operate a payment network on their behalf. (Translink is moot cause they don't but IIRC linkt do, albeit a very very small commission).

As for the broader population, there are plenty of people who don't do online billing/payment. There are plenty of people who either don't know how to or don't like to do it (hence why Post BillPay is still a big thing). As for non-amex linkt users, they might also care because it's fee free.

                • @Trance N Dance: 7/11 is doing those people no favours by discouraging them from looking into paying online. Sometimes you need to throw the chick out the nest to force it to fly.

                  • @AustriaBargain: That's a very elitist way of looking at things. There are legitimate reasons why people avoid paying for things online, and forcing them to do so can create more security issues than helping them to so call "fly". Technology literacy in the wider population is not as high as you want it to be, especially in the 50+ age group.

                    • @Trance N Dance: If they have that much trouble with a smartphone maybe they shouldn’t be driving a car in the first place.

                      • @AustriaBargain: That's a very elitist (or at the very least a very narrow minded) view of the world you have there.
Knowing how to use a smart phone has nothing to do with maintaining the manual dexterity and basic fundamentals of operating a vehicle (fundamentals that haven't changed in decades).

                        • @Trance N Dance: What if there's an emergency and you need to video record something in order to be on the front page of liveleak? And do they even sell dumbphones anymore, how do people call 000 in an emergency if they don't have a phone at all. I feel like these outlying people should be the ones tolearn how to use the internet, instead of so many branches of society having to bend over backwards to cater to them. You have to draw the line somewhere and you're not actually saving these people any time by letting them line up for something a computer could serve them instead.

  • The only place I was able to top up my gocard with AMEX to get points :(

Because Translink offer no incentive to do it other than hope the person buys something.
